Tracy Morgan Kidney Transplant: '30 Rock' Star Recovering From Surgery

12/20/10 09:34 PM ET   AP

Tracy Morgan

LOS ANGELES — "30 Rock" star Tracy Morgan is recovering from a kidney transplant. A statement released Monday by Morgan's publicist says Morgan is doing well and taking "much-needed time" to recover from the surgery earlier this month.

The statement says the actor-comedian looks forward to returning to work on the New York-based NBC sitcom after the holidays.

The 42-year-old Morgan plays the goofy star of a TV show on "30 Rock." Another "30 Rock" cast member, Grizz Chapman, also received a new kidney earlier this year.

NBC didn't immediately respond to a query about how Morgan's surgery would affect production of the sitcom.

We are all created equal. Till we don't have enough money. Tracy admits he did not take care of his disease till it was too late - he gets a kidney. I do everything the doctors ask, keep all my numbers in line till my kidneys fail, and I don't get a transplant. Someone can't afford his meds for the rest of his life - no kidney for you. It's like the soup nazzi only for kidneys: no real rhyme or reason. HEALTH CARE FOR ALL

Tracy,

You have made me laugh my butt off but since there are no butt transplants available yet I'm destined to go though life butt-less. Don't shed a tear for me because I will make due but I refuse to go through life without the cheer you have given me.

You hurry up and get better, Funny Man!

Jeff Dennis is a 29 year old man who is on dialysis and in desperate need of a kidney. He is registered with Cedars Sinai hospital, in Los Angeles.

He has someone to donate a kidney to him, but can’t have the transplant soon, as he cannot afford the anti-rejection drugs that he would be required to take, once he would have a kidney transplant. The kidney will fail without these drugs.

Although he has insurance, these drugs will cost him about $800 a month for the first 3 years and then up to $2,500 a month after.

If he doesn’t have a transplant, he will die. 80% of those who are on dialysis don’t live more than 10 years on dialysis.

He hooked up with the NTAF Southwest Kidney Transplant Fund. A legitimate and very reputable organization. One can make a contribution by check or credit card.

He is young and can have a great and productive life ahead, with your help!

Contributions would be sent directly to the organization, in his name. I have the forms as well.

I am scheduled to be on the radio Saturday night, talking about kidney donation. Other kidney donors who donated a kidney to a stranger, will also be on this program. ( I am not 100% sure I will be speaking. Programming is still in process) But there will be a program on kidney donation. Also on this program will be someone who is in need of a kidney transplant.

For more information on kidney donation, feel free to contact me or visit my website, SaveALife-DonateAKidney.com.

Best wishes to Tracy for a speedy recovery!

One may think of Tracy Morgan, as goofy, not wrapped to tight. He makes people laugh, laughter
is good medicine. We all need more laughter these days. BE WELL TRACY !

Let us support those who are doing the good work with transplant activity. Be a donor on your driver's license. Have a healthy NEW YEAR, with good health, maybe we won't need as many
transplants.

Welcome to the zipper club Tracy. I had a kidney and liver transplant on June 18, 2008 which gave me back my life after 4 1/2 years on dialysis. Please people say yes to donation because you can change and possibly save someone's life. I did a tribute to my donor from whom I received both organs and posted it on youtube. Please give it a look.

Hope you have a sppedy recovery, Tracy!

I donated a kidney and it was the greatest experience of my life. If I can do it again, I would do it again tomorrow.

Since my kidney donation, I have been wanting to do more. So I now have a project to help others who need a kidney. I don't get paid for this and don't charge a fee. My brother donated a kidney as well, to someone on my list of people in need of a kidney.

If anyone out there is considering kidney donation and would like more info - please feel free to contact me!

Sincerely,

Chaya Lipschutz

Lesson to be learned here.

Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure. For those who already have diabetes - do whatever the doctor tells you. Keep an eye on your blood sugar. And watch your diet, strictly. Too much sugar is poision when you have high diabetes.

For those who don't have diabetes but are obese - lose weight! Because obesity can lead to diabetes!

In general, everyone needs to take good care of their health! Exercise, eat healthy (low fat, high fiber diet) and keep your BMI (Body Mass Index) below 25 is best. A BMI over 25 is called overweight. And a BMI over 30 is called obese.
