In the wake of punk rock legend Patti Smith winning a National Book Award for her memoir "Just Kids," and the boom associated with the publication of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards' memoir "Life," 2010 might well be remembered as the year of the powerhouse rock star memoir. These two works provide unique insight into the histories of two cultural forces, illuminating some facts behind the myths of their personae.

But all too often with rock musicians, whether it be from drug overdoses, wacko fans or other strange circumstances, they die way too young. From Jimi Hendrix to Kurt Cobain, there exists a slew of rock stars who died before they had the chance to write a memoir.
