Allie Crandell Sidelined By Revolve Clothing Over Weight Concerns (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 12/22/2010 4:05 pm Updated: 05/25/2011 6:20 pm

Revolve Clothing has spoken out about a super-skinny model on its website after shoppers expressed concern over her size, Styleite reports.

Allie Crandell, best-known for her stint on MTV's "The City" and her blow-up with PR guru Kelly Cutrone about her weight, shows up on Revolve several times in dresses by BCBG Max Azria. And instead of the comments being about the clothes, they all seem to be about Allie's appearance.

Revolve responded with the following message:

Hi everyone,Thank you for your concern. We are absolutely aware of the feedback and responses to our model's weight and it has concerned us as well. We are working closely with both the model and her agent to get her to a healthier size. She won't be appearing in any of our new product batches or in any of our fashion editorial photos moving forward until the issue is adequately addressed. We appreciate and respect input from our customers and visitors and hope that you find our responses satisfying. We have been attempting to respect the privacy of the model in question while dealing with the issue on our end. We hope you understand. Sincerely,The REVOLVE Team

I have known women that were thinner and ate like lumberjacks. Sometimes the body is naturally this size, just as sometimes it is prone to holding mass. If she's sick, I hope she gets better, but I'd bet that she's not and the website pulled her for the sake of the complainers and profit. Just as they tell girls they're too fat, or short or ugly, they can be too skinny now. Faux PC.

I agree. I am a size 4 and have heard negative comments all my life about being thin mostly by people who are not thin. I can eat more than a lot of my friends But I never gain weight. And there isn't a dessert that I don't pass up! Sometimes weight is genetic--- both thin and fat and there is little you can do about it. My children are also tall and thin and wish they could gain weight easily but our family genetics make that hard to do.

People should not judge everyone who is thin as being someone who is sick.

she does look very thin, and obviously she is ill if they aren't letting her work right now, but I couldn't help but think the gray dress looked amazing on her. I mean she has a very beautiful face and I don't want to advocate her starving her self, but she looks mega hot in that photo.

I often think woman (and some men) who get upset over people who are very thin are looking for an excuse to be fat. They are quick to judge saying he/she is too thin - so ridiculous. I would rather be too thin than over weight. I know many woman who are overweight and carry themselves well. Still, they need to lose the weight!!! It's just not healthy. Sorry, but I'm not into average or overweight models. I want to look at a model who is thin and fierce. If you can't stand to look - close your eyes.

Everyone has a personal preference. You like thin women, I like tall, thin men. It is OK to have your opinion just as long as you don't put others down for their opinion.

I would agree with you normally, but this time I can't. This girl's head is disproportionate with the rest of her body and the clavicle protrusion ...says unnaturally thin for her frame.

In the first picture, it looks like she just crawled out of the mother ship and wants to plant a diode in your brain. I can only hope these pics have been altered, because the 'Dachau' look is just atrocious.

This mag has gotten crap for supporting a unhealthy view of women. Hopefully they start taking notice.

How can a woman decide if clothes will look right on her if the person doing the modeling is always 12 sizes smaller?

Doesn’t this sound cynical? That the model is being counseled and not the magazine who chose to herald her. Is that not a double standard? And why is it that such fashion journals fail to take responsibility for their actions? In fact one could possibly argue it’s media sources like Revolve that help keep distorted images of unhealthy individuals in the public eye as the preferred yardstick. Shameful stuff one wonders…

I AGREE. they totally threw the model under the bus when it was them that hired her and took the pics in the forst place. they propbably wouldn't have pulled the ad either if customers hadn't complained.

There are a lot of people out there that are naturally skinny. I don't know about this particular model but there are some people who try to gain weight like obese people try to lose weight. My dear wife has tried everything possible (blood tests, nutritionist, oil injections, stomach biopsy, etc...) and still can't gain weight. It has been frustrating trying to find people to talk to who have this same condition. So I started my own website: im2thin.com

Been hearing a lot about the 'body image' thing quite a lot lately. I think it's gone too far. Dealing effectively with obesity among children is more important than cultivating the idea that as long as they are comfortable in their skin, everything is alright. My girlfriend has a model's body naturally. She doesn't diet or restrict her food intake in any way, she's naturally thin. It appears the 'body image' zeitgeist is tilting away from fit and favoring fat. This CAN'T be good.

Why are people making a big deal out of it? Maybe that is her natural weight, some people ARE naturally skinny, ya' know. Yes, THAT skinny. Guys can be too.

with cancer yeah ..sadly we are in a nation that has a weight problem compunded by the media that has a brain problem in telling girls that they are "hot" at concentration camp weight.
my mom was anorexic ..and sadly had nothing to help her fight when she got really sick!

Thats not true, I grew up with a sister who was under 80 pounds, 5'2" until she hit her late 20's and she hated being skinny, she knew she was too skinny and no matter what she did she couldn't gain weight, she had a small appetite by nature combined with a fast metabolism. She never wore bathing suits in public before, now she does because she is finally comfortable in her body.

I don't think it helps any woman of any size to post an article with the sole intent of criticizing her weight and basically leaving it up to the public to ridicule her. I'm sure whoever posted this 'article' did so not to help this young woman, but to hold her up as a "freak" for people to gawk at and make them feel better about themselves.

In the first photo, it looks like her head was photoshopped - look how wide her head is to the width of her shoulders.

No doubt the girl is skinny, but I have to wonder if the graphic artists are really thinning her down digitally to enhance her slim build.

Damn, that head is huge. And there is only so much fat you can pile on those shoulders to increase their width.

The first photo had definitly been photoshopped. Thin or not, no woman has proportions like that in reality. Her body and head don't match.

See my comment earlier. However, she is a 'pixie'. Think of Twiggy (another 'pixie) who was rail thin back in the 60's (born 1949) and is now slightly heavier build, still alive and healthy, and wonderful: check out her website and a plethora of others on the web. Jealousy of being slim and trim must eat those up (i.e. those being overtly large due to over eating, living an unhealthy life, etc.,) who disparage this young woman are just not admitting their envy.
06:23 PM on 12/23/2010
I respectfully disagree. Ms. Crandell's head is way bigger than her body, her skin is hanging off her bones, she has barely any muscle tone, her neck looks like a bunch of tendons, and don't get me started on her clavicles. Were she someone (15-20) years older than she (probably) is.

Yet, on a young lady with such a beautiful face, excellent bone structure, and lovely skin, it's sad-looking.

As an aside, if being extremely thin were all that was required for her profession, she wouldn't be doing catalog work for Revolve/BCBG; she'd be at a higher level, perhaps.

I disagree too. She looks alarmingly thin. She does not look fit or healthy. I have no idea if she has a true eating disorder--but I am not envious nor disparaging of her--just alarmed and concerned. I think the people who wrote to the company were of the same mind.
