Hedo Turkoglu Missed Dunk: Magic Forward Blocked By The Rim (VIDEO)

First Posted: 12/22/10 11:25 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:20 PM ET

Late in the fourth quarter of Orlando's game against Dallas on Tuesday night, Magic forward Hedo Turkoglu had an opportunity to cut the Mavericks lead to four. Turkoglu, who was traded to Orlando from Phoenix over the weekend, received a pass on a fast break and tried to dunk it. Unfortunately, Turkoglu was blocked by the rim and the Mavericks recovered the defensive rebound. The 31-year-old argued for a foul but didn't get the call. Dallas went on to win 105-99. Scroll down to watch the video.

You can see in the latter part of the above video with the camera above the basket that he was pushed at the hip. It wasn't a hard push, but didn't need to be in order to be effective. It altered the trajectory of his upper body to the (his) right, which is easy to see with decent eyes and judgment, at least in this view. Although not as detectable in the video, it would have also lowered the path of his outstretched hand/ball as his upper body veered to the right.

That said, the referees may not have been able to see the rather subtle but effective push. Also, much of his leap was horizontal rather than vertical, so there was no room for last split-second adjustment.

HoffPo really needs to drop its sports coverage.

yes he was pushed, and yes, he is no jumper. he could have still made it if he was a jumper. anyway, turks are known for things like wrestling, weight lifting and not for jumping

There is an actual name for what Hedo did... it's a disease actually...

Turkgolu is one of the greatest players of all time he was pushed. Huff post is anti turkish.

The rim must be anti-Turkish for getting in his way.

I watched this entire game yesterday. When Hedo jumped he was PUSHED in the small of his back by Dirk Norwitzki forcing him under the rim. Moral of the story. The huffpost is the last place on earth you should look for sports news!

Dirk is now better than Larry Bird and nothing can take that away from him.

Dirk has a couple more points than Bird and Bird has a three more championship trophies. Dirk has none and won't be getting one. You take the points. I want the trophies not to mention the competition of NBA players during Bird's era was infinitely more talented than players are today.
06:58 PM on 12/22/2010
by your logic a backup player on Bird's Celtics is better than Dirk. Just because your TEAM wins a champtionship doesn't make an individual player on that team better. A lot of things have to go right for a team to win a championship. Moreover Dirk has been League MVP. The highest individual honor a player can get.

Wow really? Comparing current players from players during Bird's era?/ You do realize the game has changed TREMENDOUSLY since Bird's days. Things were very physical back then, if Bird played in today's league he would be all you hear about every night. The league now a days is so soft compared to back then.

He was pushed by Dirk.

You can see he was pushed. That should have been a foul.

Yes. He was pushed. That said, however, basketball is a game of figuring out what the refs will call and what they won't call. He was fouled, but the refs didn't see it that way. Maybe they thought the foul did not make him miss the shot--I don't know. But to them (and to many other referees) a "push" does not equate to a "foul."

Excuse me, but this guy isn't "white." He's Turkish. Turkish people are far from being "Anglos," and don't make the mistake of referring to one of them as such to his face. Turks are more closely related to Arabic people.
