Jonathan Kehoe, Unemployed Man, Wins $1 Million McDonald's Prize

First Posted: 12/22/10 01:38 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:20 PM ET

A McRib value meal has changed a life.

When Wisconsin man Jonathan Kehoe ordered one -- he won a $1 million prize from the fast food chain's Monopoly themed sweepstakes.

Like many Americans, Kehoe was down on his luck, out of work for 18 months and running out of options. He had no idea when he pulled into the drive-thru that things were about to change.

I suppose one million dollars is fair compensation for having to ingest a McRib.

Good grief. Have all of the cynics collected on this comment thread? It seems to me that Mr. Kehoe is grateful for his winnings - even if he has to pay taxes on it. Or even if -eek!- he ordered a McRib to win the money.
I'm glad this guy won the money and not you bunch of ingrates.

If the politicans really cared about us-they would make lottery winnings and prizes untaxable.
07:26 PM on 01/03/2011
Agreed, because those who don't work for the money are exactly the ones who should avoid taxes.

Not true. McRibs are probably quite good at causing loads of dietary distress issues.

At lease the winner does not work on wall street or is a banker.

Thats a terrible thing to say, what on earth would make you think that? are you going to file for bankruptcy in 5 years? then why would you say he is?

600,00 for taxes, and then 300,000 for open heart sugery from eating to much Mcy D's. 100,000 left over. : }

20 annual payments of $50,000. That won't put him in the top tax bracket. I won't comment on the other stuff, since nothing is that bad in moderation.

Since he's homeless, chances are no family would even claim him if he died in 10 years due to poor health from eating their crappy food; that means McCrap keeps half the Million. Rethugs are so smart (seriously)!

A Christmas miracle, but don't tell republicans about this, because they are going to oppose the prize as "socialism"

and the dems will want to take a large chunk to redistribute the wealth. Would Barney Frank put it in the same catagory as estate taxes? After all, he didn't earn the money, it was given to him, so it should be subject to higher taxes.

Well, republicans want rich people to live for free, so there you go, with democrats, everyone wins, with republicans, only the co_rru_pted insiders win.

He's unemployed, yet he's spending money at the drive-thru at McDonald's instead of fixing an inexpensive meal at home.
04:06 PM on 12/22/2010
Cheaper to eat at McDonalds....why do you think the US has a weight problem.

It is absolutely cheaper to eat at McDonald's. I don't spend much time in them, but use them for pit stops when I travel. Where else can you eat for 99 cents? Sadly, not even at home.

Are you kidding..? At McDonald's you can eat a big meal for a few bucks. I detest the fast food industry but I understand why people still eat there.
