Karl Rove: I 'Suspect' Hillary Clinton Will Be A Presidential Candidate In 2016

Karl Rove Hillary Clinton 2016

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 12/23/10 12:06 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:20 PM ET

GOP strategist Karl Rove predicted on Wednesday that Hillary Clinton will be back on the presidential ticket in 2016.

"I suspect she will be a candidate. I suspect she is going to think about being a candidate in 2016, and we'll know by about 2014," Rove said on Fox News. "If she leaves the administration in 2014 or 2015, in order to give herself a chance to write a book about her experiences and reconnect with the grassroots, then she might entertain it."

Clinton has repeatedly denied any intention to seek the nation's highest office again. Earlier this month, she insisted that Secretary of State would be her "last public position," and said she anticipates a return to advocacy work after leaving the administration.

But those claims weren't good enough for Rove, who, making some quick calculations, noted that Clinton would be just 69 come election time in 2016 -- younger than John McCain was in 2008.

"She'll be younger in 2016 than John McCain was when he ran, and she will -- I suspect -- be a big presence on the Democratic scene."

McCain was 72 when he lost the presidential election in 2008.

Rove...why isn't this man in prison? There isn't a thought that he spews from his pie hole that is of any interest to most of us. Why isn't he in prison?

This must be Karl Rove's wet dream - a candidate who would galvanize the GOP to vote.

Since Hillary is a feminist, I found this explanation entertaining:

Well, duh Sherlock.. where did you did up that clue? And who cares what you think after you, as the self appointed "Bush's Brain", helped drive the economy into the worst recession in 70 years. You also predicted in 2004 that the Democrats would not win the White House again for 40 or 50 years because you had the Electoral Map figured out. Please, no more predictions Karl. Your time has come and gone.

Clinton time is over......It's time for new bold politicians not 1990's throwbacks who gave away the party.

So Hillary will leave her office as President Obama's Secretary of State in 2014 or '15? That means Karl Rove expects Obama to win again in 2012?

Well, Karl always did have "'the' math" on election results before anyone else.
12:11 PM on 12/25/2010
Hey Karl, you betcha she'll run and I'll be there to campaign for her. No one deserves it better (Democratic, Republican or Independent) in 2016 than Hillary Rodham Clinton.

I do not believe Hillary will ever be President. We have shown twice in a row now that we no longer look for experience in our Presidents. It is apparently more exciting to see people "learn on the job."
12:36 AM on 12/26/2010
Sadly you are correct - we reject experience and indeed proven competence, and even more sadly we reject women running for President. There is a reason the black man got the vote 50 years before women, and that reason still exists and is in effect to this day
05:40 AM on 12/27/2010
Yes! When we were celebrating the feat of electing the first black man into the Presidency, it occurred to me over and over again that it would have been an even greater feat to have elected the first woman. There is more misogyny out there, even in the 21st Century, than we think. Why else were Hillary Clinton's pant suits such a big deal, along with her so-called "cackle," and concerns about what the effects of menstruation and/or menopause would be on a Commander in Chief? Her experience was written off as her being a part of "business as usual." When people pictured Hillary Clinton in the White House, they didn't see her - they saw Bill Clinton. None of this is to suggest that we should have broken the highest glass ceiling just because it is the highest one, but rather, it is to point out that history's pattern remains. We still need a Women's Movement. We still have work to do.
