Valerie Jarrett: Obama 2012 Campaign Will Be Different From 2008 Political Operation (VIDEO)

Valerie Jarrett Obama 2012 Campaign

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 12/26/10 04:42 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:20 PM ET

During an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday, White House Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett suggested that President Obama's quest for reelection in 2012 will look a bit different than the operation he ran in 2008 to win the White House.

"Because he's the President of the United States, he's not out there running the way he was before when he was the U.S. Senator," she explained. "The American people expect him to lead. He's their President. He's everybody's President regardless of party affiliation."

Jarrett went on to elaborate, "That doesn't mean that at some point he's not going to get out there and launch a campaign, but the most important thing that he can do for the American people is think of them every single day and let them guide his actions."

According to Jarrett, a priority for Obama heading into the new year will be to step outside of Washington, DC more frequently with the goal of engaging more readily with the American people. "It's really what gives him his energy and his strength, and so we're determined in the new year to make sure that his schedule reflects that priority," she said.

The Chicago Tribune reported over the weekend that Obama will likely return to the Windy City -- the base of his 2008 campaign -- to set up headquarters for his run for reelection in 2012:

A key factor favoring Chicago's selection is the anti- Washington climate that has swept the country. Another is the insurgency candidacy anticipated from Obama's rivals, who are expected to make the case that the times are bad, the nation's capital is broken, Obama has been captured by Washington -- and they offer voters an alternative.

Running the reelection effort out of Chicago wouldn't stop those arguments, but it could blunt them.

Obama will win re-election easily with centrist support and the support of center right Independents. He will get the Progressive vote too. He may not get the hard left vote or quite as many of the young people but he will get enough of the Indy's to cruise to victory. The biggest reason he will win so easily is of course the candidates on the other side. Republicans have nobody serious to offer. Their  Read More...

Somewhere here there is a post about Obama's many czars.
Fact: P Bush had more czars than Bush. After all it was Bill O'Reilly on Fox News that called for MORE czars under Bush's watch. Hee, hee.

"Fox News personalities, including O'Reilly Factor guest-host Laura Ingraham, have attacked President Obama for appointing "czars" -- a term the channel uses to refer to any White House official tasked to advise the president on a specific issue, regardless of whether the position is subject to Senate confirmation -- with Fox News host Gretchen Carlson singling out the appointment of a "border czar" for criticism. However, during the Bush administration, Fox's Bill O'Reilly called for the appointment of an "immigration czar," as well as a "charity czar" and a "disaster relief victims family czar."

WOW!

I mean the..Rationales..Denial Mechanisms..the Pure..Unadulterated..Deception...and Obama's Most Magnificent "Talent"..ILLUSION OF ACTION..are on Full..Nauseating..Display In Valerie's "Statement".

Amazing!

For One Thing..I'm Curious To See:

What Can Obama Possibly.."SAY"..In 2012..That'll Be Remotely..BELIEVED?

"This Time..I Really Promise Change..Pinkie Swear!"

Hope?

Gone!

"Change"?

There's Not Only Been NO.."Change"..But The "Changes" Obama Has made..SPECIFICALLY In the Area Of..(Obama Apologists Dare Not Even Mention It..Ever)..Civil Liberties..Obama's "Changes" Have Been:

Terrifying! Overtly..Irrefutably of the "Authoritarian Redundancy" Type.

Obama "Granting Himself The Authority To Grant Himself Further Authority"

Well..Those "Changes'..are More than Merely Unacceptable..they're..Despicable!

I've Made The Decision..And In A Weird Way..I Was "Happy-Sad" to Discover This Decision..Is Amazingly Difficult To Live With..But I've No Choice. But to "Sacrifice" My "Vote For President"!

If Obama's the Only.."Choice"..I'll Leave That "Oval" Blank..Come What May..Before..I'd Vote For Obama A 2nd Time!!

After Obama's Corporate Authoritarian Trifecta:

1) Granting Himself The Authority To Have American Citizens Assassinated!

2) Undermining Miranda Rights To An Extent "Even Cheney" Wouldn't Go!

3) TOTAL..Ongoing..Armed..Obstruction Of Press Freedom In The Gulf..On Behalf Of A Corporate Donor and a $20 Billion Bribe-

That Was "It" for Me!

Obama's..Worse!

Obama's In fact..Despite the Shrill Shrieking Protestations of the "2OA's" (Obama Administration-Obama Apologists)..an Anti-Civil Liberties..Pro-Corporate Authoritarian..Deception!

I Agree 100%

I've decided..and its been..incredibly..difficult to live with..That Before I'll Vote For Obama A 2nd Time..I'll "Skip" the "Oval" For "President"!

I'm NOT Saying I've been.."Converted"..Republicans are.."Still Worse" (Its That bad).

But Obama's Literally..100% Illusion Of Action!

Its Surreal.

When you Look at his.."Performance"..like standing in a Museum looking at ANY Surrealist Art..you "Stand Back" and Look..its..Terrifying!'

It really Is!

The "Reforms"..are..in Reality..So Draconian..have "By Definition"..SOLD our Freedom to Corporate Interests!

Ask Any ER Nurse..about the "New Computers" Being Installed In Hospitals nationwide..That Are in fact "Set Up" Specifically To.."Demand".."3rd Party Access" to ALL Medical Records.

Aka "Corporate Partners" of The now Mandatory corporate insurance. Banks are Salivating..Cannot Wait to use their "Corporate Partners"--Insurance Companies--Access to Medical records to:

"Determine Your Ability To Repay Debt Based On A 'Health Score'"!

And "Tax Cuts"?

I'm looking at my Pay Check..RIGHT NOW!

I've been asking the Apologists to "Do A Very Simple Thing":

A Series Of "PSA's"..Showing an Average "Blue Collar" (Nurse..Electrician..Teacher) "Paycheck"!

And.."UNDERLINE"..these "Tax Cuts" they're CONSTANTLY..Unceasingly..Demanding "Have In Fact Occurred".

Really?

WHERE?

Show Me!

They Cannot..its an Illusion!

My Taxes..HAVE..Gone UP!

Thus..I Propose..You..And I..and Every Other REAL "Progressive"..Unafraid Of Admitting We Were Literally Deceived..That We Advocate A New Candidate:

Reagan proved that a president can be very popular even though the majority disagrees with his policies; as Cheney remarked, "Reagan proved that deficits don't matter".

Reagan appealed to Americans because of his grandfatherly demeanor, John Wayne bravado, positive talk of his country and countrymen and his continual reassurances that we were a "city on a hill". He also made it OK to be selfish, he poohed the idea of limited resources and he sold the entire nation on the fantasy that cutting taxes and rewarding the wealthy would produce more income and wealth for the rest; "a rising tide lifts all of the boats".

The GOP understands that people respond to emotion and imagery, they utilize their superior resources to manage public opinion and they have no qualms or sensibilities so they will use any and all strategies to obtain their objectives.

Obama's greatest mistake as well as the Democratic party in general is that they do not understand the concept of manipulation of public opinion - they seem to believe that people will logically choose what is best for them by logical thought - any con man or cigarette salesman can tell you that they are way off track.

Leadership requires an understanding of the game you are playing and of the rules of the game; the GOP understands this very well, Obama and the Dems do not.

No lie was too big for "The Great Prevaricator", Ronald Reagan, to tell, all the while looking the American people in the eye with mock movie acting sincerity.

Comparing President Obama's words with his actions, it seems that the President was at least sincere when he spoke favorably of President Reagan during the 2008 campaign..
03:12 PM on 02/23/2011
So right. I was living in Calif when Reagan became our governor. It was said then he was only a titular head, didn't know much of anything, and could not run a state let along run the country.

The Repubs made Ronald Reagan a false god.

President Obama has had a rough road to lead after the bushies left our country in a mess. People who put down our current president just don't realize how much he has reallly done. (Please do your reseach) He stopped us from going deeper in the abysss caused by the Bushies. Some people would rather listen to the "hate merchants" instead of following their hearts. For heaven's sake, P Obama is doing his best to right our country. The vitriol and name calling is absolutely off the wall by the Repub party.
I am a firm believer of our President and have been from day one.
06:49 PM on 12/27/2010
has it occurred to some that manipulating public opinion just might be unethical? Iraq invasion and trickle-down theory come to mind.

"Obama's quest for reelection in 2012 will look a bit different..." says Valerie Jarrett.

Sure you're right. This time around, there will be no "Obama For President" sign on my front lawn.
How's the saying go? "Fool me once it's your fault. Fool me twice it's mine."
I never expected a quick fix for the nation's many problems, but I was more than dismayed by Obama's willingness to embrace tax cuts for the rich, as was I when he failed to push for a public option in the recently passed health care bill.
The expansion of war-making in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, Yemen and, perhaps, beyond has diminished my support for the president, as well. Obama's handling of the Israeli-Palestinian issue can only be described as cowardly.
I also expected the prison at Guantanamo closed as Obama promised and the cruel economic boycott imposed on Cuba lifted.
Oh, I know a Republican president would be worse but still, I have my principles.
Besides, the current president seems willing to adopt much of the Republican agenda to save his own hide.
Having once been one of Obama's most loyal and vocal supporters I'm beginning to feel a little like the lady-of-the-evening who wakes to find her departed date has left only change on the dresser.
In other words, I feel used.

With this attitude, you may have your "principles" but you would also have to survive another republican president. You might want to reconsider which pain is the worst.

Heck, Hippie chick, I've been feelling the pain (broke) for years. Yet, my principled self has survived every president since Roosevelt.
Believe me. Pain is pain. Republican induced pain or Democrat induced pain - it's all the same. Truth be told, its those tea party types who I'd like to see trying to survive Republican nonsense.

I was comparing Obama to Browning's "My Last Duchess" who treats everybody with the same cheerful response as she does her husband , no matter how many gifts he gives and how many "favors" the Duke does for her. Obama just can't keep himself from smiling at the corporate liars and the Republican nay-sayers, at the same time he is pretending to not see the people who worked so hard to get him elected. And, if his diffidence makes those who gave their time, money, and enthusiasm to his cause to feel all used and slimy and they say so, he and his supporters attacks THEM.

What I expected was a president who would avocate in public for decent policies. He was plenty eloquent when he advocated for himself, wasn't he. Instead the capitulated to the corporate interests, allowed them to write the legislation that he claimed as his own, and then claimed it was the best he could do. Yeah, the best he could while maintaining his distance from the real issues...the corruption and nay-saying of the opposition party.

As I said earlier, since when is it a sin to expect some kind of policy-loyalty when a candidate takes advantage of a voter's time, money, and (especially) enthusiasm. Corporate donors get favors for money alone, and everybody expects them to..

Of course his 2012 campaign will be different. In 2008 most of the American public didn't know that he was arguably the most liberal member in the U.S. Senate. That is left of Sen. Bernie Sanders, who like Laurence O'Donnell, is a proud self-described socialist. Now, for better or for worse he has a record. Remember he wanted to end the tax cuts for the rich, he wanted a public option (before he was a U.S. Senator he acknowledged his support for a sing payer system). He wanted cap and trade even though he admits that energy prices would necessarily skyrocket. He has a record and so will his 2012 opponent.

How quickly you forget that Obama invited the CEOs of big health insurance, big pharm and big finance into the White House and virtually gave them everything they wanted, including continued control of a necessity (health care) to which their businesses contribute nothing without corruption and price gouging. He didn't even consider either single payer OR public option...he gave them away before negotiations even began, but pretended that the latter was still up for grabs.

Somebody is filling your head with crapola. Beck? Limbaugh? Some other propagandist who twists the truth to get you to advocate against your own best interests?

You read it here first: President Obama's undoing in the 2012 election will be the same problem that has plagued his Presidency: He lets his opponents define the issues and then he reacts to them, instead of taking more initiative and actually leading.

This tactic worked fine in 2008 when Obama was seen as having few vulnerabilities, since he was basically an unknown with no track record to speak of, good or bad. This left people to focus on his skill as a podium speaker reading from a well prepared script, and at this he is exceptionally skilled.

Things will be different in 2012 because Obama honestly has not delivered all that much. I know that people will argue to the contrary, and hold up such notable but overstated achievements as appointing a Latina to the Supreme Court, but the fact that this argument needs to be made at all suggests that Obama has not so much accomplished anything, as he has reacted to circumstances as they arose.

The problem this presents is that we still do not know what we will get with a President Obama because he does not really seem to stand for all that much and his tendedncy to negotiate deals where he seems to come out the loser yet declares victory anyway is not helping either.

If his opponent in 2012 is someone with a clear agenda, a clear set of goals and a plan to achieve them, President Obama won't fare well at all.

Obama is the most disappointing President any Democrat could ever have imagined. And the funny thing is that even after granting Republicans all their wishes, the Republicans speak of him with little more than contempt.Obama has managed alienate his base to the extent that many will disregard him. Here is a man who surrounded himself with Govt Sachs employees, Geithner, Summers, Bernanke, and even with Summers leaving he is considering yet another Govt Sachs employee to replace him. His new best friend appears to be Jeff Inmelt, the CEO from Ge. GE received TARP funds, GE has received subsidies and incentives and GE has paid no Federal Income Tax. Is Obama so dense as to believe that people don't see these things as giant fed flags, NEGATIVES?? He has give us a heath bill with no public option, no cost containment - premiums have been rising ever since. He has given us Financial reform that does nothing to rein in Too Big To Fail. He ran on a promise of allowing us to buy drugs from Canada & Mexico at reasonable costs (as opposed to the hyper-inflated prices pharm charges Americans). He reneged on that saying those drugs were not under FDA control and wouldn't be safe. meanwhile Big Pharma has outsourced both drug trials and manufacturing to the most backwards, unsanitatary third world countries on the globe. Jarret is fooling herself if she believes that Obama can now hit the streets "engaging more readily with the American people" and make up for the total indifference he has shown to middle America. We still are insulted by his lack of engagement during the Gulf Oil Spill and the fact that despite the pleading from southern Governors he refused to even visit the border for the first hand look at the bloody battle being waged on Mexican/American border that they wanted him to consider. Obama is arrogant man, his words ring hollow in the ears of most Americans, he has given them plenty of good reasons not to trust him.
