2010's People Who Made Comedy Possible (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 12/28/10 08:53 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:20 PM ET

The year 2010 had a plethora of intensely funny people, but where would they be without their targets, who may be equally funny for altogether different (and unintentional) reasons? Midterm election years always make the stakes of politics and our culture more heightened than non-election years, and that sense of urgency only fuels the fire of comedians' wit. Politicians, celebrities, and whatever Sarah Palin is are always good for making us laugh in between sighs of remorse. Vote for the people you loved to hate the most!

Dr. Laura Schlessinger
1 of 19
Although Dr. Laura's no-nonsense approach to her call-in advice show has often been met with criticism, she had never seen anything like the controversy that erupted after she said the N-word sixteen times to an African-American caller seeking advice on how to deal with her white husband's racist family. She promptly quit her show (on terrestrial radio, anyway) after the public outcry, but not before becoming a poster child for one of the funniest demographics, white people who are upset they can't use the N-word.

Sample joke: "My show will be back on September 17th, following a very special episode of Def Comedy Jam hosted by Dr. Laura Schlessinger." -Bill Maher

I have to say, we've come a long way since I was a kid. It used to be that you would get teased for masturbating. Now you get teased for not.

These people who have been chosen as "top" people for what? Most are absolutely disgusting. The only ones who were even mildly amusing were the Airline Attendant who was tired of rude passengers on a plane and Jay Leno who makes sense most of the time.. I was very glad to see Conan off broadcast television.

With the exception of the flight attendant, all of these people are so wilfully deluded or just plain evil you just have to laugh at them. Then you realise that these are the same people who hold so much influence & power over us you kind of get a bitter taste in the mouth.

OK, you're on. Give us a thigh slapper about Nancy Pelosi--there's a catch: it has to be funny.
07:53 PM on 12/29/2010
well, despite the fact that everything she thinks is laughable... how about her favorite word... wait for it.. is the WORD....

Well, biden and pelosi didn't say stupid, untrue, ridiculous, abusrd, hate filled, insane things. I never saw Pelosi or Biden spit all over the camera and throw a phone as they screamed America is dead, Glen Beck did that. I never saw Pelosi club a fish to death with a homicidal grin on her face, Palin did that. Poor Christine never got that people were laughing at her, not with her, that was a joke in itself. So if you could give me some examples of things Biden or Pelosi did that we would all find funny, please do, I could use a good laugh.

I'm not against Biden, but come on. He is notorious for saying stupid things!

"Look, John's last-minute economic plan does nothing to tackle the number one job facing the middle class, and it happens to be, as Barack says, a three-letter word: jobs. J-O-B-S." (An election rally in Ohio, 2008)
"
"A man I’m proud to call my friend. A man who will be the next President of the United States — Barack America!" (said at his first presidential campaign rally in 2008)

Or his gaffe just this year on live national television about the health care being a Big F-ing Deal...

He's known for saying funny stupid things. It's part of why I love him. He's the modern day Dan Quayle when it comes to speaking.

And then, there's Mitch McConnell, John Boehner and David Vitter, all of whom make comedy possible by...well, being themselves.

The Mel Gibson tapes are the funniest. And I've always been a big a fan of the Mad Max films, but those phone calls never get old. My favorite part is when the most catholic man on earth segues from death threats to a mention of his previous marriage which didn't last due to their lack of "spiritual common ground". Knee-slappingly funny stuff. As for funniest politician, Republican Basil Marceaux.com. Hands down.

If elected, the first thing Basil would do is remove the gold fringe on all American flags. Seriously.

It's said the true barometer of a sense of humor is the ability to laugh at yourself.

So it's no surprise there are no liberal politicians on the list.

an important part of making comedy possible is one's complete stupidity, which explains the presence of Bachmann, O'Donnell and Palin
03:40 PM on 12/28/2010
No one said these people have a sense of humor. In fact, I'm not sure they realize how funny they are.

Rick Sanchez looks like one of those kids in high school who would kiss up to teachers by announcing that another student arrived four seconds after the tardy bell rang.

Republican men must be really, really sexually frustrated if they're willing to look past Palin's personality in order to see someone sexy. You reap what you sow, I guess.
