Joe Joseph Arrested, Charged With DUI After Redskins Debut

Joe Joseph Arrested Dui

12/27/10 04:09 PM ET   AP

LEESBURG, Va. — Washington Redskins defensive lineman Joe Joseph was arrested on charges of driving under the influence early Monday morning, less than 24 hours after making his NFL debut.

Vincent DiBenedetto, a spokesman with the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office, said Joe Louis Joseph Jr. was booked around 3 a.m. Monday after deputies responded to a report of a single-vehicle accident shortly after midnight.

Hours earlier, Joseph and the Redskins had returned from Jacksonville following a 20-17 overtime win. Joseph played as a reserve in his first game as an active member of an NFL roster.

Joseph, 25, joined the Redskins' practice squad Dec. 15 and was promoted to the main roster on Saturday. He spent training camp with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted rookie from the University of Miami and was a member of the New York Giants practice squad earlier this season.

He was later released on his own recognizance. Authorities did not know if he had an attorney.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said he was still learning the details of the incident and would make a statement after he has spoken with Joseph.

Yes! This is how you celebrate when you make it on to the active NFL roster. Get drunk and drive instead of taking a cab.

Yes. This is how you celebrate. If you celebrate legally, you're doing it wrong.

You can't arrest him, he's an athelete. They have a free pass. They don't have to obey the law. That's what happens when you pay someone millions of dollars and they suddenly think they are somebody above the law. Get the drunk off the road and the field.

They will be role models as long as parents want to be cool and don't take their kids to science museums.

Road conditions could have caused his accident, and he could have be slightly over .08 Can happen.

Single vehicle = no one 'else' was hurt. Pay the damages and go through driver school / probation period . Not a big deal if its a first offense, he keeps his mouth shut, and he doesn't do it again.

I guess you don't realize he is named Joe Louis after the first black man to win the Heavy Weight Champion of the World? Joe is not short for Joseph in this case.

Maybe he fell asleep? He was alone in the car. A brother in Virginia all alone in a nice car, having been placed on the roster that day--is he crazy?
