Mexico Drug Violence: 2 Mutilated Bodies Found In Southern Mexico

Mexico Violence

12/27/10 11:01 PM ET   AP

ACAPULCO, Mexico — Police in the Mexican resort of Acapulco found the decapitated bodies of two men in front of a bar where 11 men were reportedly abducted earlier this month, officials said Monday.

Shell casings from assault rifles and two handwritten messages whose contents were not disclosed were found at the scene, according to a statement from police in the Pacific coast state of Guerrero where Acapulco is located. Such messages are often left by drug gangs.

Eleven men were reported abducted from the bar on Dec. 17. Such establishments are frequently the targets of extortion attempts.

Two of the abducted men were later found dead. Their hands and feet had been cut off.

Elsewhere in Guerrero, police found the remains of three people in a clandestine grave in the town Teloloapan, according to state police. The police report said the three unknown people were believed to have been killed about four months ago.

In Ayutla, Guerrero, meanwhile, a car ran into a group of people leaving a church Sunday, killing three and injuring four.

And in the Gulf coast state of Veracruz Monday, one policeman was killed, and a local police commander was wounded when a man opened fire on municipal offices in the town of Otatitlan. Three people who were attending a wedding at the town hall were wounded in the shootout.

Assistant state prosecutor Reynaldo Escobar said the victims at the wedding included a boy, one woman and an adult male.

And in the northern state of Durango, the army reported it had seized a cache of 84 rifles and 46 pistols, including one assault rifles with gold-colored inlays and another that has a grenade-launcher attachment.

The Defense Department said troops patrolling the mountainous area of Tamazula, Durango discovered the weapons and 770 kilograms (1,697 pounds) of marijuana in 191 bales.

The army said Tamazula, located near the border with Sinaloa state, "is an area considered a bastion of criminal organizations."

Mexico isn't strict with it's policies, international or domestic. That's why they're losing the fight.

Boycott Mexico. Take your vacations elsewhere. This country is not safe and all the military and police are corrupt.

What if all of these drugs were available at your pharmacy with a doctor's prescription at controlled prices, regulated and taxed with those proceeds going for treatment? Would there be a radical increase in the number of addicts or would that number stay constant? Would the illegal drug cartels still control the market? Would the overall cost of control (as compared to our current law enforcement cost) increase or decrease?

Our current model for controlling these drugs is a dismal failure and it is destroying lives and creating unimaginable havoc.

LEGALIZE DRUGS. Stop the war.

Mexico's problem, is well, Mexico's problem. If the government can't protect their citizens then they need to get better officials. Mexico isn't a war-zone since a majority of the country doesn't have as high of a crime rate compared to other parts. The problem is that their police service and military are weak, that's it. The government can careless that tens of thousands are dying each year due to drug gangs. They have the resources to eliminate the problem but prefer to lose as little money as possible in the process. I would also think that they may also be getting bribes from the gangs, which isn't unusual.

If I was in a violent region of Mexico than the ideal thing for me to do is to move into the countryside or a different city with a lower crime rate. Staying in a region where hundreds are killed a day would not even cross my mind.

I know of no region where hundreds are killed a day nor are tens of thousands are dying each year due to drug gangs.

Yes, the party in power may well change as a result of the Federal Elections in 2012.

The war on drugs, the war on terror, the war on guns, the war on obesity, the war on healthcare, the federal governments never ending war on anything that can create more federal and state agencies. More agencies that will fail as they always do. How can any sane human look at Janet Napolitano and somehow feel she has provided a more secure country? Janet Napolitano should be the poster child of failed government programs. I can hardly wait until the war on bloggers starts. Oh wait.... it has.

We need to open our borders and let these people escape Mexico's violence!
10:10 AM on 12/28/2010
Wrong!!! Opening the border, more than it already is, will only make it easier for the violence to move into the U.S.

We already have 12,000,000 of them here who are taking our jobs. Do we seriously need an higher unemployment rate? I think not. Mexico's problem, is well, Mexico's problem. If the government can't protect their citizens then they need to get better officials. Mexico isn't a war-zone since a majority of the country doesn't have as high of a crime rate compared to other parts. The problem is that their police service and military are weak, that's it. I would also think that they may also be getting bribes from the gangs, which isn't unusual.

If I was in a violent region of Mexico than the ideal thing for me to do is to move into the countryside or a different city with a lower crime rate. Staying in a region where hundreds are killed a day would not even cross my mind.

Seriously, how do you know that it is only 12,000,000?

How can it be the same or nearly the same number year after year?

Sounds like the war against drugs is going well and the fact that we're loosing the war does not matter, as long as we keep fighting it and people keep getting killed, sounds like Afghanistan, another war we're loosing.

Stop wasting taxpayers money on another fruitless "war". Legalize drugs.
10:12 AM on 12/28/2010
That would help. However, until that happens, think about this: Everyone who insists on getting high on a drug that comes across the U.S/Mexico border, is helping to fund the violence. To those who fall into that category, thanks for nothing!

While we are waiting, think about this: everyone who insists on blaming the users for the violence is helping to prolong the Inhuman War on Drugs. To those who fall into this category, thanks for nothing!

The War on Pot gives them their strength. Call off the war and fix the problem!
10:21 AM on 12/28/2010
Sorry, it is not the war on pot that gives them strength. It is the instance of many in the U.S. to get high on drugs that come across the U.S./Mexico border that gives them strength.

It's the fact that the drugs are illegal. and therefore insanely profitable, that gives them strength. Legalize and they'll become weak as kittens.
