Miller Says He Won't Block Murkowski Senate Win

Joe Miller Alaska Senate Race

BECKY BOHRER   12/27/10 07:39 PM ET   AP

JUNEAU, Alaska — Alaska's certification of results showing U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski winning re-election over Republican rival Joe Miller could come as soon as Thursday.

Miller filed court papers Monday saying he no longer objects to the state giving its OK to the election results. That would clear the path for Murkowski to be in place in Congress when it convenes early next month.

But Miller still isn't satisfied with how write-in ballots were counted and isn't giving up. His attorneys asked federal judge Ralph Beistline to keep Miller's legal options open after Murkowski is seated, including a possible recount, if warranted.

Beistline is the one who has barred the state from certifying results. A spokeswoman for Gov. Sean Parnell says that if Beistline lifts his stay, certification paperwork could be signed Thursday.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) – Republican Joe Miller has formally declared that he no longer opposes state officials certifying Alaska's U.S. Senate election.

In papers filed in federal court Monday, Miller says he doesn't object to state certification of the November election results, which show his rival, fellow Republican Lisa Murkowski, winning.

But Miller isn't entirely giving up. His attorneys asked U.S. District Judge Ralph Beistline to keep alive his options – including a possible recount or election contest – once "all appeals have been exhausted."

Beistline barred the state from certifying the race until issues raised by Miller were addressed. Last week the state Supreme Court refused to overturn results favoring Murkowski and said it found "no remaining issues" that precluded certification.

Miller reiterated his claims the state erred in how it counted write-in ballots.

Miller couldn't block or allow Lisa Murkowski's election results if he wanted to...she won the race! He prolonged the agony of defeat to support himself and his attorney with funds donated by contributors out of Alaska. Miller lost his Alaska support after the second attempt to steal the election. I'm not sure why anyone outside Alaska would contribute one penny to aide this man except that they were hoping to make Sarah Palin look as if she has control of something. We hate her in Alaska. When you get to know her you too will hate her, well hate is strong emotion but we sure do disrespect her, she's a real piece of classlessness, obviously she never shot a rifle before, her aim left a lot to be desired. I still do not believe she hit the caribou..I think the guy to her right of her shot the kill, anyway, she's a phony, you will all find her out. That is if you have any sense. I'm beginning to wonder about some of you. As for Joe Miller, you can all have him. He's really worthless a liar a crook and in truth I have to wonder why did an attorney with such credentials move to such a remote region???? TOK ALASKA middle of no where???? (Land of those who want to hide from something.) Well I hope one day we all find out just who this facade of a wanna be really is. Peace

Tea Party candidate using all avenues of our Government legal system to delegitimize the election he clearly lost by more than 10,000 votes. The same Government that is taking our freedoms is good enough to fight for Joe's cause, eh? Will the hypocrisy emanating from the right ever cease?

Watching the nutbaggers take over congress will only cause more folks to come out in 2012. And I bet that the tan man will be out of a job in two years.

Nutbagger calling on the government to intervene on his behalf is the highest form of h1pocracy. These are the folks on the other side of not legislating from the bench.

"Miller no longer objects". Translation: the ink has dried on the book contract and the papers have gone through for his PAC.

It really didn't matter whether he backed down or not, he lost.

I do find this news a bit disappointing though, I was hoping to see some story about how he'd chained himself to the desk or something like that. I go back and forth with Teabaggers, they do make me laugh, which is more than I can say for the sitcoms on TV's lame attempts at humor...

If I may parrot my favorite Monty Python sketch:

Mr. Miller, this campaign is over. It is dead. The dead horse is pulverized. It has passed on! This campaign is no more! It has ceased to be! It's expired and gone to meet its maker! It's a stiff! Bereft of life, it rests in peace! If you hadn't taken it all the way to the Alaska Supreme Court, it would be pushing up the daisies! Its processes are now history! It's off the twig! It's kicked the bucket; it's shuffled off its electoral coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisible!!
THIS IS AN EX-CAMPAIGN!!
