Sarah Palin Accuses Conservationists Of Hypocrisy (VIDEO)

First Posted: 12/27/10 12:12 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:20 PM ET

While touring a logging camp with her family on Sunday's episode of "Sarah Palin's Alaska," Palin took the opportunity to skewer conservationists who use pencils and paper as a medium to complain about her stance on the environment.

"Conservationists write me these nasty letters because I support an industry like this," the former vice presidential candidate said, after taking a chainsaw to an Evergreen Timber tree. "They write me these nasty letters using their pretty little pencils on their pretty little stationery not realizing. Where do you think your pencil and your piece of paper came from, people? It came from a tree that was harvested."

On last week's episode of the show, Palin targeted Michelle Obama for supposedly crusading against desserts with her anti-obesity campaign.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee later came to the first lady's defense, arguing Palin "misunderstood" the campaign's mission, and that the issue of obesity was one that the nation needed to take very seriously.

Miss Sarah's overly simplistic view of nearly everything is breathtaking.

Considering how the ill effects of climate change are hitting Alaska- and will become worse- Palin seems to be barking up the wrong tree in her inane accusations against environmentalists.

Is it true that she took six shots to down a caribou that was standing still? Our father taught us to use rifles when we turned 12, and I would be embarrassed to be that bad of a shot.

Trees DO provide products we use daily. It is the continued cutting of virgin/old growth that is the issue. If you factor in the cost to the loggers.. usually $0, since in Alaska the Federal or State own most of what is logged there, and the loggers do NOT pay for the roads or for replanting as a general rule. Up there it is pretty much cut and run extraction... tree mining actually.
Conservationists understand sustainable forests and how to encourage them.. .
Saint sarah is just preaching her talking points to her followers. They probably think.. I don't know what they think or care.. this is just another item by SP talking without thinking, and bashing another group she doesn't agree with.

Sarah, here's just a few observations:

1). Conservationists aren't advocating NEVER using ANY products from timber. They are advocating sustainable use of timber. "Pretty little pencils" and "pretty little stationery" is sustainable. Wiping out entire forests w/o replanting so people can buy a inexpensive "new construction" home in the burbs every time they move is not.

2). No serious conservationist trying to communicate w/ a major political force is going to handwrite a letter. They will use e-mails, websites, articles in a newspaper, TV commercials etc.

3). If they ARE going to handwrite a letter, they are not going to use a pencil. They'll use a PEN.

4). If they ARE going to use a pencil, they'll use a MECHANICAL pencil, not an old-fashioned wooden one. Do they even make those anymore?

5). When all the forests in Alaska are harvested, how good is the hunting going to be?

This is pure vintage Palin. She can make an enemy out of thin air. Because, see, no one is stopping loggers in Alaska. No evil environmentalists are stopping “progress” in Alaska. This is another Palin v No One fight, where the viewer gets to plug in the evil guy (who is always a liberal and usually in the White House).

She's really on one, isn't she. Seems like she's on some sort of Manic high, I doubt anyone writes her anything on paper. She's so full of it, Miss Historionic Personality Disorder. Getting Histerical about something that happened maybe once? That about sums it up, but look at all the people she has eating right out of her little hand!

Well, I have 2 more days to mock SP (my resolution is to ignore her).
Sarah's daily hairspray usage probably contributes more to climate change than a letter written to congress, no?

As long as Palin must finally release her e-mails...maybe, perhaps she should release, for public scrutiny, a handful of these letters written with fancy pencils on fancy stationary. If she is going to lie to make her point, she should choose something that has a remote chance of being believable.

with the effects of climate change in Alaska accelerating at a frightening pace- its Palin in the end who is going to look totally irrelevant.

If we didn't know better, one might wonder if Palin has ripped a page from the Ann Coulter playbook; say absolutely insane flame throwing things that are sure to get folks all riled up, stay in the headlines and generate book sales. There are only two problems. It's obvious from the way Palin delivers these pearls of vapidity that she's 100% earnest (unlike Coulter who doesn't even try to mask her disingenuous rabble rousing sneer). But more to the point, I doubt Palin is that clever.
