Kennedy Center Honors: Chris Rock Roasts Oprah With 'Oprah's So Rich' Jokes (VIDEO)

On Tuesday night, the annual Kennedy Center Honors were held to celebrate some of the biggest names in entertainment and media, including the one and only Oprah Winfrey.

The Queen Of Talk's longtime friends and colleagues John Travolta and Barbara Walters came on stage to honor her, but also used the time to complain a bit about how much she's used them both over the years. This humorous vibe continued until Travolta and Walters turned to a fake "Oprah" studio audience and picked on comedian Chris Rock to say a few words.

Rock opened up with a few jokes about the first couple, saying how great it was to be staring at "the most powerful person in the world, and then next to her, Barack Obama."

But he soon got to the good stuff: a game he likes to play called "Oprah's So Rich." He encouraged he audience to ask, "How rich is she?" before giving a few hilarious examples. For example,

"China owes her money!"

Pfft, that wasn't roasting...sorry. If you want roasting, talk to Jeff Ross next time, alright? And you better be prepared for some bitter pills.

I can't quite figure out why there are so many Oprah haters on this board. Come on people, whether or not you're an Oprah fan, don't begrudge her for recieving a Kennedy Center Honors award. She was born into poverty in rural Mississippi and was the worlds' first self-made black billionaire. She has had the highest rated daytime TV show for years and done a great deal in philanthropy. You don't have to be a fan, but the Kennedy Center Honors are awards to honor people in the entertainment industry. I certainly think Oprah qualifies.

Just ignore them. Unless your skin is white you get no respect from those people.
05:39 PM on 12/31/2010
Oh, they can't stand it because she made it on her own. I remember her when she was a local reporter in Baltimore and even had a show with another guy. I can't remember his name but they are still friends. I don't watch her show anymore but I always respected what she had done for allot of people. Am a white woman and I see her treat people equally. But what I don't understand so what if she favors her own race when doing things. What is wrong with that. We whites do it all the time. She is up front with it. I don't blame her in any way. If she didn't help who would?

any republicans in the audience? I don't think so. More and more we appear to be two separate countries.
09:15 PM on 12/30/2010
Scan the video to 3:14...looks like Kelsey Grammer to me. So there's at least one Repub in the audience. Not really an overly political event, though, so I don't think partisanship comes into play.

China won't see a dime of that money. How they will collect if we just pretend we aren't home? Or maybe we can send the Publishers Clearing House over and give them a big fat fake check. They won't know the difference until its too late.

No one deserves this award more than Oprah. To have totally dominated a field as competitive and improvisational as TV talk shows for a QUARTER century, becoming not only the richest and most philanthropic African American of all time, but the most influential woman on the planet, and to have done so by hosting a show that is so inspirational and uplifting, a show that broke countless taboos in the 1980s (gays rights, food addiction, child molestation), a show that encouraged literature and altruism, a show that encouraged inclusive spirituality (as opposed to the dogma of organized religion), and then to have thrown all her influence behind electing a black man president; I can not think of anyone more deserving. And the level of sheer artistic excellence and ingenuity it takes to talk for an hour a day and keep millions entertained in our competitive and fragmented media age, making them laugh, cry, get excited & inspired. No one has more range. Oprah is art and humanity at its finest.

Kennedy Center really needs to re-think who they are honoring, I can see everyone up there except for Oprah. Why was she honored? She gave here and there. Buffet, Gates, Zuckenberg are and were giving almost all their monies to charity. These people need to be honored not her. She has a talk show basically.
There are so many others who deserve it. But what Anderson Cooper does CNN Heroes is real and true.

Oprah not only has a TV show or talk show. She’s the first black woman to own a network and has a successful production company. She encourages people (women) to read and look beyond the obstacles of life. She’s an actress, producer, and media mogul. She not only gives her time but she gives her riches to those in need. If you don’t like it. Turn the channel or don’t read this article.

"Kennedy Center Honors" is about honoring entertainers.Musicians, dancers, actors. Therefore, Gates, Buffet not going to be honored there.
08:27 PM on 12/31/2010
Maybe she (EmilyRose2010) was referring to Jimmy Buffett (Margueritaville) and Gates McFadden (Star Trek - Next Generation); both of whom are clearly more deserving of that honor than Oprah. I can't, however, seem to figure out who Zuckenberg (sic) is. LOL.
