New Year 2011: Books About Starting Over (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 12/30/10 07:06 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:20 PM ET

As we begin to ring in the New Year, we reflect on the past and think about making changes for the future. Some New Year's resolutions are big changes and others are small tweaks. Either way, now is the time to make adjustments in your life.

While you do, here are a collection of books about new beginnings -- about starting over, trying new things and diving into something different. Maybe they will serve as inspiration and help start the year off on the right foot.

Let us know what other books you would recommend in a similar vein in the comment section below.

I've read most of these and those I have read are all wonderful books. I am particularly a fan of Steinbeck. I've read everything he had published over his long and prolific life. Not a dud in the lot.

When is the books section finally going to start putting a brief synopsis of each book on these slides? It's very annoying that I can't decide whether I want to read a book or not.

"Second Wind" by Cami Ostman is a great book about new beginnings.

I'm not sure how 'inspirational' some of those books are.... I'd like to see a synopsis of each. You don't have to wait for the first day of the year to 'start over'. You have the choice 24/7.

Yes, and yes. I've been complaining about the lack of synopsis for a while now.

Were you inspired ? Or do you need a synopsis to tell you if you were inspired.

While I have always found the idea of "starting over" inspiring;real life always intervenes. It seems the slings and arrows of real life takes its' toll on ones body soul.I wish it could be possible to "do over";but in actual real life if it isn't events that conspire against a do over;it is people;such as the dread HR person who make a do over impossible in reality.

I think you have the choice to make changes; not necessarily 'start over', don'tcha think?

Perhaps start over is a poor choice of words;I know as a fact of my own life experience that one can make changes in ones own life;but oft times it seems to me there are a legion of naysayers who will put obstacles in your path to change. One of my most favorite quotes come s from Fitzgereld;"There are no second acts in American life";as a rule I try everyday to disprove that assertion.
