Tea Party Nation Founder Brands NAACP As 'Liberal Hate Group'

Tea Party Naacp Hate Group

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 12/30/10 10:57 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:20 PM ET

Judson Phillips, head of Tea Party Nation, recently released his picks for 2010's "top five liberal hate groups." Among them is the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, a selection that is unlikely to smooth the rocky relationship that has developed between the two organizations over the past year.

"To the NAACP, anyone to the right of Karl Marx is a racist," Phillips writes in a post on his website.

In July, NAACP President Ben Jealous addressed mounting complaints from his members that the Tea Party promotes racist rhetoric, resolving to confront the issue.

"Expel the bigots and racists in your ranks or take the responsibility for them and their actions," Jealous urged the Tea Party at the time. "We will no longer allow you to hide like cowards and hide behind signs that say 'Lynch Our President' or anyone else."

Later that week on CNN, Tea Party Express spokesman Mark Williams shot back that the NAACP itself was racist, not the Tea Party.

Williams's subsequent attempt to back up that claim only served to further the perception that he himself harbors racist sentiments, and ultimately resulted in his expulsion from the larger Tea Party Federation. He resigned from his official post within the week.

In October, the NAACP released findings from their study on the alleged ties between hate groups and the Tea Party. "The result of this study contravenes many of the Tea Parties' self-invented myths, particularly their supposedly sole concentration on budget deficits, taxes and the power of the federal government," reads the introduction to "Tea Party Nationalism," a joint project with the Institute for Research and Education on Human Rights. "Instead, this report found Tea Party ranks to be permeated with concerns about race and national identity and other so-called social issues."

Tea Party Express called the findings "ridiculous and an affront to the millions of Americans who are deeply concerned about the growth and intrusiveness of the federal government with the accompaniment of higher taxes, more onerous government regulations, high annual deficits and a skyrocketing national debt."

Despite the ongoing feud between the Tea Party and the NAACP, Phillips ranks the group last on his list of liberal hate groups. According to Phillips, organizations like the SEIU, the Department of Homeland Security, the American Civil Liberties Union, and the Southern Poverty Law Center, are all more nefarious than the NAACP.

Check out Talking Points Memo's coverage for more on Phillips's "liberal hate group" index.

So the NAAPC is a Liberal Hate Group? Right. And Jesus was a blue-eyed white guy with brown hair who was born a Jew in the ancient Middle East. Right.

Tea Baggers just made the NAACP completely relevant for at least 50 more years. In just just 2 years the baggers has shown the world that we are still not free of bigotry and hate. So now Rev. Jackson and Sharpton can continue to work through retirement. We're not perfected as a nation until we can get rid of this misguided hate.

One of those signs reads, "When injustice become Law, Resistance becomes duty". I wonder if she is talking about Jim Crow...hmmm...nope. To her Jim Crow never existed.

Thank God for the NAACP. If it were not for these brave souls....along with level headed, fair and equal minded Christians...America would be another South Africa.

Actually when you think about it,these TPs are nothing more than lemmings that the KOCK brothers has funded to work agaist their own self interest, but you can't make these people see that. One example would be the estate tax they are so fired up against, wonder how many of them that would really efffect, yet they are so adamantly against it.Those KOCK brothers really know how to work these lemmings.

A group of people can be insane even if the individuals in the group are rational, even decent people. But when they lock into groupthink they had better have their philosophy and perspective based on reality, facts, and truth. The NAACP does. The Tea Party mentality is built on layers and layers of hyperbole and rage which disguises a deep seated malignant racism and mistrust of change. I can only hope for the improvement of the economy, because that is about the only thing that can prevent this cancerous delusional thinking from spreading.

repubs have been subverting the will of the american people since jan. 2009. do they actually think we are paying them over a 100 grand a year, plus great government health ins. and retirement to filibuster everything and not even let anything come up for discussion , just so they and their corporate owners can make sure they get back in power and stop democrats from reinstating consumer, employee and environmental protections that were gutted by bushco. they and fake news, etc, are anti american corporatists whose ideas can only be sold by spending millions on think tanks that come up with lies and propaganda , ( say government run health care, do not say public option). they are the biggest threat to our democracy that we've ever seen.

tea baggers sound like they are bought and paid for by 87% of the immoral corporations that donate exclusively to republicans. those regulations that protect consumers, employee protections, minimum wage increases, paying their fair share of taxes, i.e. smaller government; every single thing they are against would hurt corporations and help people. they are either naive as they come or bought and paid for by carl rove and the chamber of commerce.

Suggesting that a people who were first enslaved and then subjected to over a century of brutal discrimination are racists for resenting their oppressors is intellectual dishonesty of the first order.

What do you expect from the fraction of the population clamoring for 14th Amendment repeal? (Oh, but they'll still claim to be 'the Party of Lincoln.' A Lincoln in politics today would be unelectable as a 'RINO.')

Now this is funny. I donate to both the SPLC and the NAACP and I am a card carrying member of the ACLU. I would join the SEIU, but I am retired and they might not want me because I am tainted from being upper management before I retired. I would never be part of the DHS because they do scare me. I think that makes me 3 out of 5 with sympathy for a fourth on the list. I wish this teabagger would not have included DHS on the list, I could have scored 100%. And would someone please explain how the DHS is a liberal group? I think I should get at least half credit for that one because phillips is obviously confused. The bottom line is I really do not "hate" anyone. I do strongly dislike teabaggers like phillips and find his views disgusting. I guess I will just have to try harder in 2011 to align myself with even more liberal organizations. Combine my efforts with someone giving phillips a definition of the word "liberal" and maybe I can ace next year's list. Call me a perfectionist. Wait make that a liberal perfectionist.

I wonder how he plans to get the African American vote when he runs for president in 2012?

Perhaps he will tell them they don't need to vote because they should never have been allowed to vote in the first place.
