Carl Levin Pie In The Face Case

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — An anti-war protester who hit Michigan Sen. Carl Levin in the face with an apple pie has been charged with assault.

An indictment filed Thursday charges Ahlam Mohsen of Coldwater with two counts of assault against the Democrat while he was meeting with constituents in August in Big Rapids. Her friend Max Kantar of Big Rapids was also charged.

U.S. Attorney Don Davis in Grand Rapids says elected leaders should be able to listen to constituents without being attacked.

Messages seeking comment were left for Mohsen and Kantar, who are both 23. Mohsen's father, Mohamed Mohsen, said she's unaware of the indictment.

Levin spokeswoman Tara Andringa said he wasn't immediately available for comment. At the time of the incident, the senator said his critics were hurting their cause.

Throwing the pie does not seem the answer. The fact that Senator Levin has shown more wisdom in both his voting record and his public comments on the wars does not exempt him from criticism.

In fact this act specifically seems designed to make an urgent statement. The cupability of Levin and others who understand the folly of these wars is great. Their lack of organization ,leadership  Read More...

These are the uninformed Idealistic Left Wing nuts that hurt the work that I have gladly given up my twenties to accomplish. they show up at our meetings and are so caught up in blind hatred that they cause the rest of our stomachs to turn. Sadly it tends to be those that go to college and read a few articles and discover the first few chapters of a philosophy 101 course book. Than they go off half cocked making a mess of all the progress those that have the patience have made. They are driven by ignorance or the quest to be famous.
I speak honestly about this because I remember back when I was 20 I worked for the Nader campaign but in the end realized that it was unrealistic and voted for Gore. I can admire their youth and devotion but 9 times out of ten it is misplaced. Oh the follies of youth.

A person's political perspective, voting choice, or position of power does not provide anyone with a right to physically attack another. Throwing a pie in someone's face is a physical attack. It is not funny. It is assault and battery. "You take your victim as you find him" attaches if the injuries are pronounced such as if Levin had had a heart attack because of the surprise attack, or if had fallen and injured himself. There is no excuse for any reasonable person to attack another without provocation. Shame on the pie thrower.

I can't believe no-one's made a bad pastry pun out of this

I.E.: This never would have happened if she wasn't so "pie-in-the-sky" about ending the war. I guess that's the way the cookie crumbles...she thought Levin wanted to have his cake and eat it too.

Come on, people. Do I have to do all the work?

Civil disobediance is a long recognized American tradition. So is the fact that if you break the law you need to be reminded of "if you can't do the time do not do the crime."

Attacking a US Senator is a crime. Sorry folks. The excuse of look what Republicans did is not a good answer when you have a Democratic Administration and Justice Department.

Many other ways to voice discontent.

No freedom of speech in physically attacking another. None of us would have considered it the least bit funny if the pie was thrown directly in our aging grandma's face, or in the face of a little child. Freedom of speech should be mere words.

If he had steped on her head, it would be assault too, or threw his shoe at her, it would be assault. I would have punched her, but that would be assault too.....can't we all get along? Of course not...people can't take it.
