Iphone Alarm Not Working

UPDATE: HuffPost readers have written in to tell us that despite Apple's promise that "all alarms will work properly beginning January 3," the alarm clock glitch has still not been remedied.

Carla P. told us in an email, "My iPhone alarm didn't go off this morning. I also set a calendar appointment with an alert that also didn't go off. My TIMER worked."

Reader Lindsay G. shared a letter she had written to Apple CEO steve Jobs explaining to him of how the iPhone's buggy alarm clock caused her to oversleep on New Year's day, arrive late to work, and lose her job as a result.

"Mr. Jobs, I’d like to let you know that you have officially, directly contributed to unemployment in 2011," she wrote. "If you had warned me about the glitch, I could have at least picked up a $5 battery operated alarm clock that would have saved my job. Now I’m unemployed in a time when jobs are not easily had, and I am short on my rent. So, Happy New Year to you, Mr. Jobs, I hope you remember to shoot me an email next time there is any chance of a glitch,"

The new year may be off to a bumpy start for some iPhone users due to a problem with the iPhone's alarm.

As the Daily Mail reports, "The iPhone's non-recurring alarms stopped working for a staggering two days after the clocks struck midnight to usher in 2011. Instead, thousands of smart phone owners got a surprise lie-in and many were forced to blame the glitch for being late for work."

Apple has told Engadget that it is aware of the iPhone alarm glitch. "We're aware of an issue related to non repeating alarms set for January 1 or 2. Customers can set recurring alarms for those dates and all alarms will work properly beginning January 3," the Apple spokesperson said.

Frustrated iPhone users took to Twitter with their complaints, many noting that the glitch had caused them to oversleep and miss appointments.

mine alarm did not work on Jan 3rd- causing me to be an hour late to work. I deleted all of my previously set alarms and reentered them and have not had a problem since.

I bought a rooster on New Year's Eve just in case.

Just delete all your previous repeating alarms, and remake them. They will then work. Pretty simple.

Though entirely hysterical that the world was going to end with the Y2K bug and not a damn thing happened anywhere of note. No one even expected a Y2K011 bug!

My alarm has worked the whole time. But then I decided to back it up with another cheap 5 dollar alarm clock just in case. I wonder about these folks that don't have that backup...

I heard about the alarm glitch days before it happened. My repeating alarms have been going off. I'd carry a small, second, emergency backup alarm if being woken up is that critical.

While I can empathise with people who did suffer some sort of inconvenience because of this, but.....come on let's be brutally honest here. People have grown over dependent on a piece of tech to such a degree that they organise their lives around its functions.

Even Orwell couldn't foresee such an eventuality

People have been relying on alarms to awaken them for many generations.

"Even Orwell couldn't foresee such an eventuality"
am I missing something here... Orwell of 1984, of Homage to Catalonia AKA Eric Arthur Blair?

What has he got to do with over dependent on a single piece of technology? have you read his books?
