Carmelo Anthony Says 'No' To Michael Jordan, Bobcats

Denver Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony is apparently not averse to ruffling some pretty influential feathers in his quest to land in an ideal playing situation next year. Just ask NBA legend Michael Jordan.

Yahoo's Marc J. Spears reported on Friday that Jordan--a part-owner and front-office executive with the Charlotte Bobcats--had been interested in making the Nuggets an offer for Anthony before the 26-year-old's representatives told the NBA legend he had no interest in playing for Charlotte.

Anthony's contract with Denver expires at the end of the 2010-2011 season. He has thus-far declined to sign a 3-year, $65 million extension that the team has had on the table since this summer.

Reports indicate that Anthony would like the Nuggets--who fear losing their star and gaining nothing in return if he becomes a free agent--to trade him to the New York Knicks this year, where he would then sign a contract extension.

Spears reports that Jordan was optimistic he could convince Anthony to agree to a Charlotte trade, partially because he endorses Jordan's brand of Nike shoes.

The Nuggets have also been talking with the New Jersey Nets, who--most reports suggest--could offer Denver the most attractive package of assets in a potential trade.
