Here, let me be the complete Debbie Downer. I've actually fished dead kittens out of my pool filter. Also mice, squirrels and baby raccoons. Small animals and pools don't mix.

I always boggle at people who take the time to name their pets/companion animlas, but then call them "it." Bob is clearly a "he."
