Marriage

A Chicago woman faces disorderly conduct charges after she decided to call 911 hoping to scare her boyfriend into proposing marriage.

Ana Perez, 40, called 911 Sunday night claiming her boyfriend was attacking her, but changed her story when officers arrived, according to WBBM.

"She called 911 to scare [her boyfriend] and have the police force him to marry her," Grand Central District police Capt. Ronald Pontecore told NBC Chicago. "It puts us in jeopardy and the public. It's not a good thing. It ticked the officers off."

The captain told WBBM that officers rushed to the scene thinking a woman was in danger.

Perez, who was reportedly hoping for a New Year's engagement, was charged with one count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

Police said her boyfriend was breaking up with her when she made the call.

Sounds like complete manipulation. I think couples need to communicate more. That's an inconvenience for the officers who most likely had more important things to do.

For the life of me, I can't understand why the boyfriend did not propose to this woman! She loves him so much, she called 911 to prove it to him! That is dedication.

and not a minute too soon. Lucky Guy. Escaped her and marriage. Don't worry though, the jaws of marriage will soon surround you and slowly suufocate all the life out of you forcing you to relinquish all that is dear to you.

I live in this district and Trust me, the police have a hard enough time serving and protecting this area from real crime. This woman should have been arrested, then again I guess stupidity is not a crime.

If he was in the process of breaking up with her, then proposes to her out of fear.... Well thats a recipe for a long lasting marriage.. Right?

Run far away guy, this woman seems to have all the qualifications to become another crazy politician. If she has that wild eyed look she will be a shoo in. You should never live in the same state as her and maybe move to another country.

A man can indeed be forced to marry a woman. When my uncle was a high school student in the 1950s in Mississippi, he got his high school girlfriend pregnant. While he was sitting in class one day, the sheriff came to his classroom, pulled him out, and took him to some locale where the girl and her family were waiting. Also on hand was an official who had "the authority vested in him" to marry the couple, and that is what he proceeded to do. This was literally a "shotgun wedding." The marriage lasted for 40 years, though I could never stand the woman as an aunt.

That happened a lot in the old days. I have relatives who lived together for a lifetime but couldn't stand each other. They married because the girl was pregnant or they married to cement wealthy families. Either way it was prison for the people who married, especially the women. When the men strayed they turned a blind eye; the women had to stay put till death parted them, literally.

Yeah, you can't force a man to get married and your uncle had his fundamental due process rights violated by the sheriff, not that due process was treated too kindly in Mississippi in the 1950s.
