Rudy Giuliani Reportedly Prepping For 2012 Presidential Run

"America's Mayor" Rudy Giuliani is reportedly seeking to give new life to his national profile by running for president in 2012.

The New York Post reports Friday that the former New York City mayor "is rounding up his top political advisers for a possible 2012 presidential run" in a move that includes plans to do some preliminary canvassing in New Hampshire.

Sources told the Post that Giuliani "thinks the Republican race will be populated with far-right candidates like Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee, and there's opportunity for a moderate candidate with a background in national security."

According to The Post's contacts, however, many see this potential move as a pointless endeavor driven by Giuliani's ego.

"They think this is crazy," one person told The Post. "They realize how long the odds are, but they are standing by."

Some insiders say it's a way for Giuliani to stay relevant. "He's not doing all these morning talk shows because he enjoys the conversation, it is because he wants to stay in the game," one said.

"He has previously said he would not run again, but he wants us to think he will," a different source said. "He's not being talked about among the Republican contenders, and his ego can't take that."

Giuliani had appeared a strong candidate in the 2008 GOP field up until the vital primary in New Hampshire, in which he effectively finished as a non-competitor despite earlier strong polling numbers and appearances in the state.

Whatever the supposed motives and past history, however, Giuliani has already denied the reports.

"I haven't done that. I haven't rounded up my political advisers," Giuliani said Friday on MSNBC, according to The Hill. "I go to New Hampshire a lot; I don't have anything scheduled right now."
