Marshawn Lynch's Touchdown, Seahawks Fans Create Minor Earthquake In Playoff Victory

Marshawn Lynch Touchdown Earthquake

AP/The Huffington Post   First Posted: 01/10/11 03:44 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:25 PM ET

SEATTLE — Marshawn Lynch's 67-yard touchdown run that clinched Seattle's upset of New Orleans in the first round of the NFL playoffs may be remembered for more than the half-dozen or so broken tackles.

It shook Qwest Field and the ground around the stadium – literally.

John Vidale, director of the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network, says that a seismic monitoring station about 100 yards west of the stadium registered seismic activity during Lynch's fourth-quarter run that clinched Seattle's 41-36 victory.

Vidale says he was inspired to look at the seismic graphs after watching a video posted on the Internet from the upper deck of the stadium and noticed the shaking as Lynch completed his TD run.

Vidale says the shaking lasted about 30 seconds and then faded off for another minute.

Seattle had a top 5 D and was 4-2 before the entire D line got injured. Everyone of them. All of them but Red Bryant are back.

Hate on them and their record all you want, but how good would your team be if your front 5 were knocked out for half the season?

Hate on the Hawks all you want but you have to hand it 'em...they are winning when it counts. As far as their record going in: Hasselback put it well when he said "what do you call a guy that graduates Med School with the lowest GPA? A DOCTOR! May be ugly; but a win is a win...GO HAWKS!!!

Retribution for 06. Go Hawks!

(I'm in Mexico, watched the Rams game on the plane down here, watched the Saints in Oaxaca City at a hostel and it looks like I'll be watching the Bears game in the Mexico City airport. With any luck I'll be home and at Qwest for the NFC Championship!)

hate to break it to you, the best run ever in the pros is a by a tight end in the 60's with the Balt Colts, it sort of puts this run to shame. sorry I can't remember the TE's name but it is bad.

Seattle is TOAST this Sunday. The Bears are going to drag 'em all over the field and leave them wishing that they had just lost to New Orleans in the first place.

BEAR DOWN, baby!

YEAH BABY!
just like in week 6!

no wait the bears LOST to the seahawks AT HOME didn't they??

all the more reason why the Seahawks are done... the Bears won't be "hibernating" on them this time around

I'm exhausted trying and failing to find this information. Who gets the home field if it's Seattle and Green Bay?

As the higher seed, Seattle would host the game.

We are trying to come up with some clever names for Marshawn's run. The best one I have heard is BeastQuake since a seismic event was recorded at Qwest when it happened. It seems like the Seahawks are getting healthy an finally gelling at the right time. I would love to see them keep going in the playoffs but it will take identical games to this one.

Its been about ebb and flow all season........................

Seattle has had more than its share of serious injuries all season, [and continues too] along with as tough a schedule in the last half as any I have seen.

What I see happening though is people stepping up, brushing up on experience, and an offensive coordinator [Jeremy Bates?] who studies the game and comes up with a great plan.
[Double stacked receiver formations and other wrinkles etc]

I love it when the press and pundits don't give them much chance! Chicago is a great team and it will be a tough game, [and close]

I will take Seattle in a close hard fought game.

It lies very close to a major earthquake fault and the Viaduct bridge.

Lynch's run was one of my favorite all-time moments in football. My next favorite will be watching the Pats lose next weekend.

I've been to many Seahawk home games and for those that haven't the 12th Man is for real. When the fans get going you can feel the sound preasure. I've left the stadium after games with my ears in pain and then they ring for days. Hearing protection is advised. GO SEAHAWKS!

The Beast will be heard!

The Seahawks are a story for the ages. Pete Caroll is a master motivator and strategist. It would not suprise me if they figure out how to beat Chicago again.

Last time, they did it at home with that 12th man. The 12th Man in Chicago is fierce... Good luck.
