American Apparel Back To Porny Ads (NSFW PHOTOS, POLL)

First Posted: 01/12/2011 1:22 pm Updated: 05/25/2011 7:25 pm

It looked like American Apparel had adopted a new, demure advertising strategy after facing bankruptcy last fall. All of the ladies in the hipster headquarter's pics were, in fact, fully dressed -- even if the brand was using bad puns like "In Bed with the Boss."

But now Am Appy has taken its ads back. Way back, to the soft porn level, which is what it does when it's desperate. A girl modeling see-through lace underwear (NSFW at the link), one topless showing off her American Apparel nail polish (also NSFW)...is this actually moving...product? We feel filthy looking at them, but we admittedly have an urge to buy clothes. Clothes to give to the poor gals so they can cover up! Jeez.

Check out two of the ads we can actually show you and tell us what you think.

Quick Poll

American Apparel's new ads:

Good for business. Sex sells!

Bad for business. This is exactly why they're in trouble to begin with!

Not sure.

I was disappointed when Am App stopped with the sexy ads. I used to think the ads kind of identified them. They were always shot in similar styles and featured girls who were sexy in sometimes unconventional or undefinable ways...with a certain "je nais c'est quois". I say more power to them.

i'm not a prude by any stretch of the imagination, but the fact that young children are exposed to this kinda bothers me....

...apparently it's not "p0rnography" unless it's a full male frontal; as for Am Ap, this isn't the worse. (As a mother, I'm appalled.)

I wonder about the 'hidden message these photos could send'; you can tell that these girls models are very YOUNG for starters. Should we be shocked when grown men old enough to be their dads seak out girls this young on the internet to feed into their twisted fantasies of being with someone this young?

Back to porny ads? They never stopped to begin with.

Combine the half-nude ads with the 100% domestic-made clothes and they are the most all-American company I can think of! More power to em'!

The problem with American Apparel isn't the adv. It's that their clothing isn't all that interesting. On a scale of 1 to 10 I give them a 3. I find their adv's have no class and the clothing does appeal to you.

Treat this like you would any other consumer product---If you don't like the ad, don't buy the merchandise. It couldn't get simpler than that. I think there are a lot more important things out there that directly effect our lives than a stupid ad.

They shouldnt.... the prices they charge for generic clothing is pretty high.....must be paying their employees too much......There have to be some US manufacturers of clothing that is reasonably priced....If you have kids...you're not shopping there....

Nobody should accept advertising from that sort of company.
