Blood Libel Wikipedia Entry Hacked: Sarah Palin Photo Added (PICTURE)

Well, that didn't take long.

Earlier this afternoon the Wikipedia entry for "blood libel," the word on the tip of everyone's tongue today after Sarah Palin's controversial use of the word, was hacked to include a photo of Palin.

The entry was quickly fixed, but not before we took a screengrab of Palin's photo, used as the entry's main pictures under the title "Antisemitism."

Palin made headlines today for using the word, typically reserved for discussions of Jewish persecution, in a video she released in response to the shooting rampage in Arizona.

See the entry (as it was at the time of the hack) in the two photos below and click the top photo for a larger version.

Somehow I feel that at last she is relegated to the thread she belongs on.

You mean because it's in an article describing something anyone with a Wikipedia account is allowed to do (that being the whole point of the Wiki concept) as a "hack?"

Sarah “the quitter” presidential material—really? After graduating from Wasilla High School (cited in a Johns Hopkins’ study as a perennial "dropout factory”), Sarah attended 5 no-name colleges in 6 years to finally squeak out a 4 year degree in mass communications (such a rigorous and exacting discipline). During her 6 year higher education odyssey, one of the schools she transferred to was Matanuska Susitna Community College (no doubt a breeding ground for Rhode Scholars), where she attended for only 1 semester on a beauty pageant scholarship. While Sarah “the quitter” may be far short on scholarly achievement, she far out-paces Obama when it comes to filling out college applications and attending unranked institutions of higher learning. Eight years of Bush taught me that the President should be intelligent, articulate, analytical, capable of grasping several complex concepts simultaneously, insightful and able to comprehend the written word from left to right, skills Sarah will never possess. Unfortunately, the anti-intellectual crusade subscribed to by republicans has opened the door for mindless incompetents. Like the proverbial “Manchurian Candidate,” Sarah suffers from confabulation neurosis and is an empty vessel waiting to be programmed by Fox News and the dreaded Neocons.

Why is this in the comedy section? I know Sarah Palin is HuffPost's (and much of the world's) running joke but whether you agree or not with the action or the preceding events that led up to it, I don't find anything that accuses someone of anti-semitism to be very funny. Telling? Interesting? Notable? Just plain dumb? Genius? Childish? But not funny.

I was just about the write the same thing. This woman is comparing herself to the persecution of the Jewish people-- very odd.... but not funny.

Hacked? No. Any Wiki can be edited by any person in the world. Unless it's "semi protected or protected" to prevent proven prior repeated malicious intent.

Thank you. I'm so tired of people suggesting something wrong -- especially on Huffpo -- when it's nothing more than editing. And I hate that hacking is used in such a derogatory fashion. Most hackers are white-hats and most guys who call themselves hackers aren't; they just use a cracker's virus toolbox and "create" their own viruses. (Of course, it they're stupid enough to execute them on their own pc to test if they work, well, that's always a bonus).

And you think articles on antisemitism aren't protected? Can you imagine the amount of time that would be wasted correcting Neo-Nazi edits?
11:35 AM on 01/14/2011
I don't think the entry for Blood Libel was protected. Of course it will be now.
