Vampire Weekend & The Black Keys Have A 'Sell-Out Off' For Colbert's Grammy Vote (VIDEO)

After winning a Grammy last year for his Christmas album, Stephen Colbert now has the distinct honor of voting on this year's Grammy nominees. On last night's "Report," Colbert made his final decisions but was stumped when he got to the "best alternative rock album" category.

After ruling out Band Of Horses and Arcade Fire (they were on "The Daily Show," after all) Colbert had to decide between popular indie bands Vampire Weekend and The Black Keys.

As Colbert points out, "best album" used to be easy to choose just by looking at which album made the most money. But now, since no one buys albums anymore, Colbert knew the only way to decide was to have a "Sell-Out Off."

Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney of The Black Keys and Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend joined Colbert at his desk for a competition based on which band had more songs featured in commercials last year.

Watch the clip below to see this epic battle unfold.

I thought this was hilarious. However, I don't know either band but I'm assuming that all those references to their songs being used in ads were real which I do find kind of pathetic.

I have to say, commercials are the new MTV, my 25 most played list is at least half from ads I saw and loved.

That's really sad. Maybe that's why I don't listen to much new rock or pop music, I never watch ads.

doesn't anybody think that the ending to this segment was in very poor taste, given what we have been talking about as a nation about violence and the way we have to take personal responsibility to keep this kind of violence out of our lives? I'm very disappointed in this segment. If it was done as a satire, well, it was not taken as such. I am a fan of Stephen Colbert, but after tonight, I'm not so sure.

Ever see 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy'. Their fight scene between several News stations is a true comedy classic and VERY similar, though on Colbert Report no actual blows were even thrown. Your definition of comedy likely doesn't actually include satire, and I find myself disputing you were ever really a fan. HuffingtonPost is also beset by many duplicitous conservatives claiming how they 'used to' be supporters of President Obama. Uh huh...

No, I thought it was funny. There was nothing in that ending that had any relation to the shooting and it was obviously a satire: on the stuffy people who run the Grammys and on the notion of indie bands.

My wife and I laughed OUR heads off at this segment, it was so well done!

A 'Tip of the Hat' for the superb 'sell-out-off', or in Food Network terms perhaps a - 'commercialization throw-down'.

I DO hope the mantle still has the Grammy though.

LOL that was awesome. Love them both but it better go to The Black Keys.
