NYC Parks Dept. Calls For Proposals For New Food Vendors

NYC Wants More Than Hot Dog Carts In City Parks

Enough with the hot dogs and stale pretzels, already. The New York City Parks department is looking to vamp up its food selections with a push for new gourmet vendors.

The proposal said it was seeking more interesting fare for parks in all five boroughs:

"Parks will view favorably menus that are inventive and interesting, serve a variety of options beyond hot dogs and pretzels, and that incorporate ethnically diverse and/or healthy food choices," the press release said.

The New York Post interviewed Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe, who said:

"It'll be all over the city. Some will be push carts; some will be trucks. It's a very hot thing now in New York, and people shouldn't leave the park if they want to have something interesting to eat."

New parks picks would reflect New York's recent obsession with food trucks, and could include anything from cookies, empanadas, gourmet sausages, gelato, tacos -- you name it!
