'Tax Protester' Sentenced To Ten Years Probation For Failure To Pay Taxes

A man who authorities describe as a "tax protester" was sentenced to 10 years of probation for 4 felonies related to failure to pay taxes.

54-year-old Jack Wharton Thomas of Black Forest was convicted in October for failure to pay state income taxes from 2004-2008.

In an effort to defend himself, Thomas--an airline pilot--claimed that he was not a wage-earner, and that he lived in Wyoming.

The Attorney General's office reported that the jury took less than one hour to convict Thomas.

On Friday, Thomas was sentenced to 10 years probation for failing to pay more than $60,000 in taxes, plus penalties and interest he owed to the state of Colorado.
