Joe Theismann's 'Danny Woodcock' Gaffe: NFL Network Analyst Slips On Air (VIDEO)

First Posted: 01/14/11 08:53 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:25 PM ET

Former pro quarterback Joe Theismann was discussing the strengths of the New England Patriots on the NFL Network on Thursday and made a verbal gaffe that made fellow analyst Deion Sanders fall out of his chair, literally.

"You can do what you want with your corners against New England, but you still have Gronkowski and Hernandez to deal with at the tight end position," Theismann explained. "And don't forget Danny Woodcock out of the backfield."

Theismann, of course, was referring to Patriots running back Danny Woodhead. His blunder immediately caused Sanders, Steve Mariucci and Mike Mayock to burst into laughter, which went on for the rest of the video. Scroll down to watch.

Just like Aikman, too many shots to the head. They both crack me up on TV.

As a commentator, Thiesmann is a great quarterback. Sanders is just annoying.

Woodcocks are birds...the Cocker Spaniel was used to hunt them...thus the name.  But it was a funny slip

I've questioned Joe's intelligence ever since that interception he threw in Super Bowl XVIII.

Oh c'mon. It's guys being guys. There is nothing offensive or childish about it. They had a good laugh--there wasn't any intentional meanness--it was a flub up and they were all caught up in the moment. I had a laugh watching Deion fall apart more than anything. SO WHAT!!!

Utterly juvenile.

So? Juvenile is funny in doses. I like high-satire and irony as much as next guy, but some juvenile humor is legitimately funny. Especially when it is organic or a simple slip-of-the-tongue, like it was here.

Yes, and what's wrong with that? They weren't being mean---it just happened and they had a good laugh over it. So what?
03:01 PM on 01/16/2011
Yeah, I guess if I mentioned "Fun With Dick and Jane" it would be uproarious.

Is is just me, or what happened to Theisman's face?  I hadn't seen him in a few years, and when I happened to catch a telecast, I didn't recognize him till they introduced him.  Yikes!
