Princess Mary Of Denmark Debuts Newborn Twins (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 01/14/11 11:53 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:25 PM ET

Princess Mary of Denmark showed off her newborn twins at the Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen on Friday. She gave birth to the babies -- a boy and a girl -- last Saturday morning.

Although her husband, Prince Frederik, joked about calling the little prince Elvis, the twins' names won't be publicly announced until their christening in several months. According to Australia's Daily Telegraph, "An internet poll of more than 13,700 Danes found Harald, Gorm, Sven or Knud were preferred names for the Prince, while Caroline, Sophie, Louise or Charlotte were favorites for the Princess."

When asked if she plans to have any other children, Mary responded, "We have our hands full right now." The couple also has two toddlers: Prince Christian, 5, and Princess Isabella, 3.

And now, without further ado: pictures of ROYAL BABIES!

Why is Prince Frederick wearing a beard? Although he is only one of three men I have ever seen who can /could wear facial hair without ruining their appearance too much, (the others being Tom Selleck and Clark Gable) -- it is my definite opinion that His Highness, (like the other gentlemen I've mentioned), look far better WITHOUT beards/mustaches. Prince Frederick still looks "forever young", even with the beard. This is nothing to be upset about. A boyish apearance never hurt Bill Gates! Looking younger than one is is, I think, an inherited Royal Trait....and one that should make the owner, proud of it!

Both Prince Frederick and Princess Mary know that one must SUPPORT THE HEAD of a baby, when carrying it! Excellent, knowing and loving parents, obviously! Great!

Whenever I think of royal children - especially before they are of an age - I always think of Edward V of England and his brother, Richard of Shrewsbury, 1st Duke of York.

They fell victim to who I suspect were the progenitors of all Republicans.

May these children mature into a far more mature human race.

The dynamic Danish baby-duo certainly look like a couple of keepers to me. Healthy babies are worth celebrating. I've just passed the three-month mark with our new one, who's the funny, cuddly light of our lives. I confess I cannot imagine being faced with twins. A singleton has been daunting enough.

Even though I know the Danish royals will have plenty of nannies and nurses to assist Princess Mary, I find myself hoping she'll be extraordinarily involved with her brood. Two infants and a three-year-old are going to require that. Luckily, a five-year-old is more advanced than a "toddler."

I wish the US separated its monarchy (The President and First Lady) from the role of our top political leader (The President). I find mixing the over the top ceremonial roles and the political roles counter productive. Every administration the presidency becomes more invested in pomp and circumstance - more security, more formal dress, more separation from public, grander trips, etc., etc., etc. Our First Lady spends her summer vacation with the King and Queen of Spain. Enough already! I find the English royal family fabulously entertaining and great at standing for values, with which you can agree or not. I happen to agree with Prince Charles environmentalism and appreciation of historic architectural styles. I disagree with shooting birds and deer for sport. Overall, I think the English Royal family generates thousands if not millions more in revenue for England, and good will around the planet, than they cost their constitutents. They live modestly for people of such wealth, serve charity, and act as models of decorum and care. Long live the Queen and the Constitutional Monarchy!

it just means the Danish are doubly f***ed loll!

Those babies just won the lottery. Not because they won't ever have to work an honest day in their lives, but because they were born in Denmark - not the US.
08:37 AM on 01/15/2011
You don't have to live in the United States.

They won the lottery being born white.

And they're already legally more qualified to be the Danish head of state than the vast majority of Denmark's citizens.

They are not qualified to be head of state at all. The royal family does not play any real part in the political life.

I noticed those too. My mother recently gave me mine! Very similar- much older. Yes, I found myself cooing over the babies too. Parents look very happy.

Yes - babies are lovely - but it was the blankets that caught my eye. With all that garter stitch, not hopelessly impossible to knit, either. I should get started forthwith.

The blankets are marvelous. I'm glad you helped me know that they were knitted and not crocheted, dear Tweed. I couldn't tell and wanted to. Simple knitting is something I used to enjoy a great deal, as I still do embroidery. I'd like to advance my knitting skills and made a new year's resolution to learn to crochet this year, too.

Why so much fuss about backward monarchists?
10:50 PM on 01/14/2011
What on earth do you mean by "backward"? I think they are well-educated and not cousins. Denmark is a very progressive and modern country; there is nothing "backward" about it. They have their royalty, we have....oh, let me see....American Idol, anyone?
11:54 PM on 01/14/2011
Anyone can win American Idol, so it's significantly more progressive than a monarchy.

I have to admit that both parents are simply radiant over their new babies. The father, in particular, seems over the moon! Great photos!

I was more noticing their exhaustion.

LOL! I sincerely doubt you have nannies at your beck and call and I would bet these two haven't lost one wink of sleep due to those babies. Royals' babies are trotted out for photo ops with their parents and then given right back to the nannies. My hairdresser just received the wondrous gift of twin 5-day old daughters just last Sunday. He and his partner are ecstatic and exhausted. I am sure you can empathize with them! btw: What is a good gift for parents of twins? I am in need of ideas!
