UC Berkeley To Lay Off 150 Employees

UC Berkeley will eliminate 280 positions -- laying off 150 employees -- in an effort to save $20 million per year, the Daily Californian reports.

The announcement was made Thursday via a campus-wide e-mail.

The university initially anticipated that it would have to eliminate 200 positions. A quarter of the positions are salaried at $100,000 or more, the Contra Costa Times reports.

The eliminations are part a campaign to save $75 million annually at the school.
