Facebook Co-Founder Chris Hughes Engaged To Sean Eldridge

Chris Hughes, co-founder of Facebook and founder of, is engaged to Sean Eldridge, political director for Freedom To Marry.

According to the New York Post, Eldridge shared the news during a Freedom To Marry reception held at the couple's SoHo apartment. In attendance were guests including Cory Booker, Ivanka Trump, and Eric Schneiderman.

The New York Post writes,

The two decided to make their longtime relationship legal on New Year's Eve. "We were in Thailand in a hotel room in the north. We were delayed after two days in the snowstorm and Chris got down on one knee and proposed. It was very traditional and very sweet," Eldridge told us. "We've been together for five years now."

They have yet to set a date, and Eldridge said they'll try to wait until gay marriage is legal in New York.

Eldridge told the Post the couple hopes to wed "as soon as possible," in "the next year or two for sure."

Hughes tweeted the news to his over 6,000 followers on Saturday morning.

"My partner Sean Eldridge and I got engaged a couple weeks ago! We're excited :) (apparently this is newsworthy )," he wrote, with a link to the New York Post's piece.
