It was just another movie role for him, or so he thought in the beginning.  Electing a 'spokesmodel' Guv was so successful for the Repubs the first time around with Reagan that they tried it again and voila, they got another celeb who would follow party lead without question.   Gray Davis certainly had his problems and they used that to buffalo the voters into a party change, the time  Read More...

What was much worse was the damage your time as governor did to the state.

California is facing a $28 billion deficit at the end of Arnold\'s second term. It was about 6 billion when he became governor. We didn't need a recall, and we sure as hell didn't need Arnold.

I dare say HE cost California a good bit more.

yeah, and all of his horrible repug mistakes he made while he was the governator cost CA billions. it would've been better if he had just donated the money to help out some part of the state he cared about (which he used to say was schools, but then he made classes larger and raised tuition at the state colleges, from the cc to state to university of..... the special election he held, trying to push through selfish agenda, of which none thankfully passed, cost the state many millions. he helped the rich and hurt everyone else, just as repugs always do.

Even the Terminator cannot fix California. The state is the most messed up example of social progressive theology that even a w_acko like Jerry B will be frustrated by next year.
Jerry's first action, eliminate 90,000 state issued phones, savings $20mil. Wow.
$24,980,000,000 to go.
Ca. just needs to get on it's knee's and beg for mercy.

No we just need to do several simple things. Raise the taxes slightly on wealthy people. Revise the part of prop 13 that is letting large corporations get away with paying very little taxes on real estate. And keep supporting the green economy and that will bring many new jobs to California. We will soon be leading the nation again now that we have decent liberal government.

Not to disagree with you, KR, but as a Texas ex-pat and Californian now, I have to remind you that the Lone Star State has as large a deficit as CA and, furthermore, per capita, it is even larger. We Californians are in for some tough times for the next few years, but we will emerge leaner and with a robust economy, IMHO.

Aside from beautiful Austin, where I have lived twice in my long life, I would rather remain in Cali under economic stress, than return to Texas. Yet, there are those who feel just the opposite. Finally, Jerry Brown is taking some sobering, realistic actions to reduce the deficit, but he did not cause it and he will need the cooperation of both Dems and Repubs to cure it....

As an Austin resident for the past 35 yrs, also in my long life, I feel your personal opinion of California is heroic, to say the least. As for Texas, Texas has a $10 Bil. surplus rainy day fund that they probably will not touch in this crisis, leaning to the thought that Texas feels it can cut to some manageable value. We could only hope that California had the same options. No matter what, as we slap back and forth the critiques of our states, the point is, we have all overspend our welcome and need to find a way to live within our means. Good luck in your goals to salvage California.
