Starbucks Trenta, Illustrated: How The New Size Compares To The Human Stomach

The Huffington Post

Just how big is Starbucks' new Trenta size?

The Trenta, available only for iced drinks, will be in every U.S. Starbucks by May 3.

The 31oz addition to the Starbucks lineup is 325mL larger than Starbucks' previous largest size, the Venti. At 916 mL, the Trenta is actually larger than the average capacity of the adult human stomach (900mL). From the National Post:

If you get pulled over do you have to pass a shakes test?

If people want it, let them have it! Nobody gets on the movie theaters for their GINORMOUS sizes (and i'm glad because I'm a cherry coke and popcorn fiend) Go crazy with your trienta!

why would you do that to yourself?
05:17 PM on 02/04/2011
How does it affect you?

The cup is only for iced teas so it will probably be only about half liquid. I don't know if they could use it for a non-iced drink, but I suspect they could by special request. Besides that isn't nearly as bad as 7-11 double gulps and such.

You can't put a hot drink in that, it will melt.

eh nobody is gonna buy this size! A venti is pretty huge anyway! Starbucks is gonna lose money on this one !
10:07 PM on 01/28/2011
Starbucks the new 7-11 for coffee!
04:08 PM on 01/22/2011
You'll just flush down 5-6 bucks after finishing that size.
05:38 AM on 01/27/2011
Venti's are already around 5-6.

Oversized drinks like these out to be taxed in such a way that it takes a substantial bite out of the increased profit margins motivating ever larger sizes. Call it a sin tax, if you like, but I call it common sense.
07:07 PM on 01/22/2011
Why? I usually buy the largest size of most thing because it is cheaper. I usually get the largest size drink and nurse it all day. It is cheaper and saves me the time of having to back and get another. I could just get 2 Venti each day, or just go there once. So you want to punish me for getting one drink instead of two. Also not counting that I am no consuming 2 cups rather than one.
08:22 PM on 01/31/2011
Most people don't nurse one drink all day. I'm all for a glutton tax.

I know that I should be disturbed by this article, but the only thought that crossed my mind while reading/reviewing was, “I wonder if they will offer is size for hot drinks too or it is only available for iced drinks”…. I have a problem.

Starbucks' timing to introduce a 30-once drink that actually holds 31 onces coudn't be at a worse time. Will it also hold a shot of Laughner?

That much caffeinated beverage might not be good for the ticker.

My best friend was fired from Starbucks while undergoing chemo treatments for breast cancer. She had gone through a double mastectomy and was in her first couple of months of chemotherapy. She was horribly ill, but very brave. For this reason, no woman should ever buy from Starbucks. She was an assistant manager and had an outstanding performance record throughout her 6 years at Starbucks. They claimed it was part of their cutbacks. Perhaps, but this was heartless. Her insurance was cancelled which delayed her chemo for 5 weeks. She is now in a desperate situation financially – facing foreclosure. Starbucks pays lip service to their family values & “partners” (rather than employees). It’s a lie. Her firing at this time was cold, mean and unforgivable. Starbucks has no heart. Again, no woman should ever patronize Starbucks.

I think it's wrong you are basing your opinion on one isolated incident. I am management in Starbucks and so is my wife, we both have earned some of the closest friends in this company we have ever had. Most likely your friend (bless her heart) went through what she did at the low point of the company. We would never fire someone because they are ill, there has to be severe behavior problems for anything to be done. My assistant store manager battled cancer while working for this company and he made it, never was fired, was given paid sick leave and Starbucks insurance paid the bill. Do some research before you slander our company.

Thanks for your comment, markandrozanna--I'm often surprised how many people will take a single incident (however terrible) and assume it is representative of how a massive multinational operates. Any company the size of Starbucks will inevitably have some sort of horror story at one level or another, frankly I'm surprised and gratified there aren't more.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Starbucks franchise-based?

well, as in all jobs with benefits, they don't cancel your insurance without giving you an option to purchase cobra, and your insurance isn't cancelled within minutes of your termination... you pay ahead of time, and usually have until the end of the month to purchase cobra or purchase an independent insurance. If your friend was without insurance or delayed her medical procedure, then that's her fault. Maybe I'm cold, but I'm sick of people blaming their mistakes on everyone else, then hoping for a handout from the government... (ie ME and my tax dollars). Sorry your friend messed up and doesn't have insurance, but that's not Starbucks's fault.

I wouldn't mind getting my morning hot non-fat latte in this size (please bring hot soon). Only because it would mean I wouldn't need to leave my desk till lunch. Lukewarm is no problem for me, its all about the caffeine. It takes me about 2 hours to drink a venti.
04:31 PM on 02/05/2011
I don't know if you know, but when you buy a venti instead of a grande, you're not getting extra caffeine unless you add an extra shot--just extra milk or water. :)

It depends on what drink you get. I asked once. The iced caramel macchiato has 4 shots of expresso and the hot only has three. You can get another shot for extra ,but I don't recomend it. Too much expresso will make you vomit.
