A Dallas garbage collector had finished his early morning route Monday when he heard screaming coming from the back of this truck. A witness, who also heard the cries for help, called 911.
Firefighters arrived on the scene and quickly began to dig an elderly homeless man out of the garbage.
The Dallas Morning News reports 74-year-old Suingenser Roosevelt was rescued from the trash truck.
It is believed that Roosevelt was sleeping inside a trash bin that was emptied into the truck. The homeless man may have been seeking warmth inside the bin as temperatures dipped into the 40s over night.
Roosevelt is being hospitalized for a broken hip and other injuries sustained when he was crushed by the truck's compactor.
