Michelle Obama's China State Dinner Dress By Alexander McQueen (PHOTOS, POLL)

First Posted: 01/19/2011 5:36 pm   Updated: 05/25/2011 6:25 pm

And now, the moment we (all?) have been waiting for: Michelle Obama's latest state dinner dress! In keeping with today's theme it's red, which symbolizes good luck in Chinese culture. The dress is by designer Alexander McQueen, who died almost exactly one year ago. Her earrings were by Kimberly McDonald.

Scroll down for more photos or see photos of all the arrivals here.

Quick Poll

Michelle Obama's latest state dinner dress:

Love it.

Lose it.

Not to toot our horn, but we spotted this red trend earlier today: Mrs. Obama wore red gloves, President Obama wore a red tie, and Sasha wore red pants for President Hu's arrival, and Hillary Clinton wore a red jacket to lunch.

She got high marks for this dress from the nursing staff that saw the newspaper picture lying on
the foot of my bed.

I would be careful with the opinions of some of the top designers. Michelle appeals more to "regular" folks in my opinion. She is not trying to outdo the stars.

her upper body is masculine, something concealing it woulda done the magic

The First Lady looked beautiful. Unlike some of the guests at this state dinner, she knows how to dress for the occasion.

Total Win! The dress; the couple; the love. The look in the President's eyes when he looks at the First Lady is priceless. That's a look you can't fake. He deeply loves this woman.

If red is the color of socialism, then what about the Coca-Cola Company.

Coca cola will redefine how the world is rehydrating - hell they are already...

Looks like a dress you don't wear off the shoulder...not sure why she is wearing it that way
08:41 AM on 01/22/2011
It's meant to be worn that way. It was poorly cut and tailored that is why there's such confusion about the dress. Asymmetrical if fine but this looks lopsided.

How can her dress be such a big deal seems to appear as distraction only - I thought that Amerca has bigger problems to deal with - the money for that dress would have helped some of the many hungry americans.
Woudn't it be smarter for her to do an Einstein (same clothes for every day) she could safe money and make constructive use of her time to help her hubby to implement some "Change".

Judas also pointed out that we should be using the money to feed the poor. This is the style section so we're going to give our opinion on the dress.
However, if you want to talk about the fashion of America's new OverLord President Hu that's fine.

The FL looks lovely, and I like the print. But the gown reminds me of the inaugural gown....a colorful bedspread with straps.

Love the style, don't like the print. But then the black and red MO wore for the night Pres O was elected I think was a disaster. I don't like red. Merely a matter of personal taste. I do like the comment that Oscar de la Renta made about choosing more American designers for her wardrobe.

x2, on the print and especially the election night outfit. It looked like a sunburned penguin.

(Her best campaign outfit was the v-neck turquoise dress (with sleeves!) with the dramatic brooch. Very elegant, classic. Will still look beautiful in 50 years.)

Beautiful woman, beautiful dress, very handsome man, what else is needed? They have more class in their pinky fingers than the entire GOP has put together.
