Apple Reveals The Top Free iPhone Apps Of All Time (PICTURES)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 01/19/11 05:16 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:25 PM ET

Apple's App Store is about to clear a huge milestone: 10 billion apps downloaded.

It took iTunes eight years to reach the same milestone, and the App Store is about to reach it in about two and a half years.

"[T]hat's an average of over 3 billion app downloads per year," Gigaom writes. To celebrate, Apple is giving away a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card to the person who downloads the 10-billionth app.

Apple has also created a special iTunes page featuring lists of the top paid and free apps available for iPhone and iPad devices. Noting the apps that appear on each of the four lists, TechCrunch writes, "[T]he lists are pretty strong and obvious, except for paid iPad apps, which seems oddly weak (iFart Mobile, seriously?). In other words, there's a huge opportunity out there developers."

Interestingly, four of the same free apps appear on the top lists for both the iPhone and iPad, while none of the top paid apps for the iPhone appear in the iPad's top apps list.

Check out our slideshow of the top free iPhone apps (below). For more, see our post on the most popular free iPhone apps from 2010.

Two of the top ten iPhone apps are Google. I guess iPhone users paid no attention to all that Jobs' talk about Google being evil.

Sad. Half of those were expected ports from other systems.

So much for innovative apps.

Is that unexpected?

Do you think more people are going to download an innovative app or something to check their Facebook?

Just because more people download these apps doesn't mean there aren't better ones that aren't as popular as to fall into the top 10.

While not Apple-centric to be sure, Apple is a big customer.

And in order for China's economy to NOT rely on exports (so when the US crashes, China won't go down with it, so be aware of what ANY politician says when they say they want China to not export as much), prices must be deflated over there to make the wages offered profitable.  Do a web search for "$3 Windows Office China Microsoft Conquered" and "$3 DVD Paramount Warner Bros China" for some results.  Guess who subsidizes those costs?  Us.  So, not only as customers, but as taxpayers given the amount of money they get in the form of "government subsidy".  Microsoft in particular benefits from tax money:  http://www.ctj.org/html/corp0402.htm.  But that's okay, despite years of getting free money from taxpayers and offshoring, they will still threaten politicians or say they have no moral imperative to hire Americans, despite all the tax money we generously give them.
