Kim Kardashian Speaks Out Against Teen Pregnancy

Kim Kardashian is saddened by the pregnancy epidemic at a Memphis high school.

The story broke last week, but Kim didn't hear about it until Wednesday, when she was taping a segment for 'Today' about her new reality series, 'Kourtney and Kim Take New York.' She took to her blog and wrote:

While I was at the Today Show this morning I saw a story about a Memphis high school where 90 young female students were either pregnant or have given birth this year! I just couldn't believe this and I find it so sad and disturbing. It seems that shows like Teen Mom are all of a sudden making teen pregnancy seem cool in the eyes of young girls. The kids from these shows are all over the news, even on the covers of magazines, and have been become almost like celebrities, but girls, these are not people you should idolize!

The pregnancy rate at Frayser High is 26 percent, although the Memphis City Schools Superintendent claims it has swelled in part because pregnant students are drawn to the school because it has programs in place to help them.

Whether or not these girls were influenced by 'Teen Mom,' the stars of the MTV hit show make upwards of $60,000 per season - enough for a boob job in one instance.

Kim recalls her high school days, when she was still crying over her early-blooming body.

When I think back to when I was 16, there is no way I would even have considered having a baby. That thought wouldn't even have entered my head. Having a baby is one one of the biggest, and most life-changing decisions a person can make and while I'm not saying that no teen is in the position to raise a child, having a baby so young shouldn't be seen as the trendy thing to do.

Girls, please, think very carefully before you make these kind of decisions. Talk to your family, friends, teachers, and most of all, be careful.

i haven't watched all the episodes of teen mom, just a few here and there...never been able to watch it all the way through since i have small children to tend to...
however, out of some of those episodes i have seen, it appears to me that majority of these teens who get pregnant have some type of family issues...i know as a teen a lot of changes are happening, but what i mean about issues is that some of these teens have issues with their parents or issues with their family , some have no stable family support, some have terrible issues with authority figure, some are just very spoiled brats...
there appears to be something lacking in these teens' lives that caused them to become pregnant in the first place.why were they irresponsible? surely, they knew pregnancy could happen...
i think if anything else, these show not only teaches a young girl how difficult it is to be a parent at her age, it also teaches us the parent about the psyche of these teens and possibly the underlying cause of their pregnancy in the first place...it may helps us, the moms to speak to the teens more and to try to resolve any issues that may exist!

Oh gosh! Advice from this person? To see a good example go to a college campus and watch the people hitting the books, struggling through Chem class, sweating behind a counter to pay tuition. Go stand outside a factory and watch the people who go to their difficult, back breaking jobs daily to feed themselves. Life, living, being productive IS NOT EASY. Life is not easy but the rewards and satisfaction from living and contributing value of self transcends celebrity. Life isn't easy. Life isn't easy. Life is not easy. Restart your life with this mantra and life will be better, life will be fabulous. Some people may look at KK and think, I want her life. Really. KK has to be "on" every day. KK is selling a product (sales aren't easy) herself. I'm only guessing (with a little experience thrown in the mix) but KK has to "suck up" to people who are a pain in the butt, daily. KK's life may look easy but it's not, trust me. The public doesn't see the c**p celebrities have to wallow in every day to keep their product (them) relevant. The public only gets to see the "happy a**" finished product. The public doesn't see/experience the self degradation of self promotion, it's disgusting. This coming from someone who influenced Montana Fishburne to do a porno because she wanted to be a celebrity like her. I doubt Kim has ever seen an episode of Teen Mom and has no idea how they are depicted on the show. She is way too famous for her own good.

you can't blame Kim for the stupid decision made by Montana...i am no fan of Kim and cannot understand how she became a "celebrity" but Montana is the one who is mental enough to believe she could mimic the same rise to fame as Kim...
last i heard, Montana had a pimp and was doing drugs with her bf which i have never heard Kim of doing...

Wow, I used to be THE BIGGEST fan of Kim Kardashian! I've seen every episode of "keeping up with the kardashians" at least a hundred times!! But now she can kiss this fan goodbye!! How dare she speak of teen moms in this degrading way!! She has no idea how hard it is for young women like us and what we go through!! MTV doesn’t idolize anything except the struggles and heartbreak becoming a mom so early causes these young women!! Kim's an idol to so many young women, yet she's showing them that its cool and sexy to pose for playboy, and have UNPROTECTED sex! She has a sex tape on the internet for crying out loud! I understand everyone makes mistakes, but she can just swipe her credit card and her worries go away! We have to fight and struggle everyday just to make a living and put food on the table!! I've watched so many people hate on Kim, saying "she's only famous for being famous" and watched it crush her feelings, but yet she's sitting here doing the same thing to these poor young girls! It’s not only rude but WRONG!! Who is she to judge us! I don’t see anywhere in the show “teen mom” that getting pregnant is a trend!? If anything she's showing these girls that walking around with provocative clothes on is a trend!! She owns a few stores selling provocative clothing!! I’m speaking for all young mothers out there!!

hold on, teen mom...i don't think she is degrading you in any way. i am not a fan of kardashians however, what she is saying is to look before you leap...she does realize it is very difficult to be a teen mom..you have your whole life ahead of you but if you become pregnant, it forces you to grow up too fast and you can no longer be a teen but an adult mom to a baby, no more late nights out, no more partying with friends, no more fun and games of being a teenager. so kim is simply saying to be careful about getting pregnant because it will change your life forever...
i hope you personally have a support system and i am sure you love your baby very much...

but you have to admit, if you had to do it all over again, you would have waited to have a baby, until you were finished with school and more stable financially and when you decide you were ready...
