Moth GrandSLAM Comes To Chicago: Story Slam Winners Compete, Hosted By Peter Sagal

Storytelling All-Stars Compete, With Special Guest Host

You might have heard of The Moth, the story-telling series that started in New York in 1997 and has become a sort of underground sensation across the country. You might have even squeezed into one of the StorySLAMs held on the last Tuesday of every month at Martyr's up in North Center.

Aficionados and newcomers alike will have a chance to enjoy the best of The Moth next week, as the Park West plays host to the first-ever Chicago GrandSLAM.

The event will feature the winners of the ten previous StorySLAMs. Like all those events, there will be a theme -- for the GrandSLAM, it's "Into the Wild." Storytellers will get up onstage and recount a story on that theme with no written notes, and guest judges randomly chosen from the audience will choose the winner.

Unlike the usual monthly event, though, this one will have tickets on sale in advance, so you won't have to do the usual get-there-early-and-wait-in-line trick. And there's a special host for this one: Peter Sagal, local NPR dreamboat and host of the quiz show "Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!"

To learn more about the Moth before snapping this ticket up, head to their website or download The Moth podcast.
