Skins

The Hollywood Reporter:

Taco Bell has pulled its ads off Skins after the Parents Television Council urged a boycott.

Spokesperson Rob Poetsch tells The Hollywood Reporter, "We advertise on a variety of MTV programs that reach our core demographic of 18 to 34 year olds, which included the premiere episode of Skins."

"Upon further review, we've decided that the show is not a fit for our brand and have moved our advertising to other MTV programming," he added.

These people need to be honest they do not really care about the other things the teens are doing,They are really upset over just the lesbian scene.

I was going to completely ignore yet another hyped cliche' teenage drama but I think I might just watch as a backlash to the PTC. Like really, stop giving this awful show publicity!!

Same here. I did and it's certainly not the most risqué thing on tv. Daytime soaps easily have it beat.

so you're saying that there will be fewer ads on MTV?

that fact alone should boost viewership

I have seen countless amounts of comments on huffington post before from people complaining how prude Americans are and why cant we be more open and liberal about this stuff like Europe but the reaction this show gets is just proof that even liberal Amerians cannot handle a European view of sex. If you view this show as so morally wrong than you must have a very negative view of the British where the far more explicit original has won awards and now is in its 5th season. Americans who blame the sexualized media for Americas massive teen pregnancy and STDs rates compared to other western countries couldn't be any more wrong, its because of American prudishness, particularly its paranoia about teen sexuality. Do you think other countries are arresting teens for "sexting" or even talk about sexting? No only America. If having a more liberal view of sexuality in the media led to more teen pregnancy and STDs than America would have the least in the western world and Scandinavian Europeans would have the most but in fact its the exact opposite. If you think this show is bad, Channel 4 in the UK just recently had a documentary called the "The Joy of Teen Sex". And thats just the British, their the prude Europeans. So liberal America stop praising Europeans for their openness about sex because if that openness came to America you would all start bitching about how immoral it is just like conservatives.

What is wrong with showing what kids are REALLY DOING?
03:02 PM on 01/22/2011
Many of the actors are actually below the age of 18. That's the problem here not so much the content. Well the content is an issue but the age of the actors are pushing it over the edge.

Well done! I don't eat there as a general rule, but I will now!
02:03 PM on 01/21/2011
Good! This network has gotten away with way too much. And they can save it with the whole "the show is geared towards adults" BS. I would like to meet one "adult" who would sit down and watch this teenage "angst" mess of a show. I hope it gets pulled completely.

Boy MTV has come a long way. I remember when it was a world premiere event to have Michael Jackson as the first African American Artist on MTV, or Madonna with her world premiere "racy" videos, talked about by every one at that time. It has been a while since I paid attention to that channel, my interest waned when they started docu dramas instead of Music, but this must be a new all time low. My suspicion is that MTV is really a secret weapon by some foreign government to dumb down our kids.
04:13 PM on 01/21/2011
I'm still not sure about Jackson being the fist, but memories and all. Yeah, my thought exactly. As we are sitting around watching our kids get mauled by other countries, does MTV make a show that emphasizes the need to be more responsible, educated, and hard working - even when set within possibly a humorous context? No, it resorts to the old, stale, same old-same old. Doesn't MTV realize that the Ferris Beuller era is passe? At least, among nations not wanting to sink into oblivion.

Exactly, and I just thought about "M*A*S*H and how they somehow brought the serious subject matter to the people, would be time for something like that again, but I guess they lack the creativity to come up with something original.

Seemed like a good idea at the time

Yeah, I can't believe I'm agreeing with the PTC. Normally, I'm of the "change the channel" mode and don't think twice about the shows that get these people all in a lather. When I heard about this one, I went and looked for any previews and when I saw it, my jaw dropped. It's the first specific show I ever used the parental locks for on our cable box. My kids aren't interested in Jersey Shore or any of that stuff, but since this show is supposed to be about teens, I can see my 13 year old wanting to watch. No way.

Interesting the left can protest the fast food places and then allow the child pornagraphy of MTV.

Which is going to easier to blame? Blame someone else for the issues that the parent should be controlling.

Ever watch the OLD Roast done by comedians? They NEVER needed to cuss the way they do NOW to get a laugh. They had the brains to be funny without being vulger.
