Fred Armisen Talks 'SNL,' 'Portlandia' & Playing President Obama (VIDEO)

EXCLUSIVE: Fred Armisen Talks 'Portlandia' & Playing Obama On 'SNL'

Fred Armisen is perhaps best known for playing President Obama on "Saturday Night Live," where he's been in the cast since 2002. But this week, IFC saw the premiere of Armisen's new show, a sketch comedy program called "Portlandia." Set in Portland, Oregon, Armisen joins Carrie Brownstein (formerly of the band Sleater-Kinney) as the co-star and co-creator of this offbeat love song to a subculture that eats organic, prefers bicycles to cars and generally keeps "the dream of the '90s alive."

The Lorne Michaels-produced "Portlandia" marks the first time that an "SNL" cast member has had another show while concurrently performing on "SNL." The first episode in full is currently streaming on Hulu. (We highly recommend checking it out.)

We had the pleasure of speaking with Armisen at Sirius XM radio about the unlikely intersection between his comedy and music careers, what's going through his mind when playing Obama, and the one reason his career may disappoint his 13-year-old self.

You can catch more with Armisen on Friday, January 21 at 9:00 pm ET on SiriusXM's Raw Dog Comedy channel when he appears on "Fridays With Breuer" (With Jim Breuer, naturally).
