Kobe Bryant To Get Cement Prints At Hollywood's Grauman's Chinese Theater

Kobe Bryant Hollywood Cement Ceremony

01/21/11 02:34 AM ET   AP

LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant has championship rings and an MVP trophy, but he's about to get an honor usually reserved for the stars of Hollywood.

Bryant will become the first athlete to have a hand and foot print ceremony at Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

Representatives for the theater announced Thursday that Bryant will have the ceremony setting his hands and feet in cement as part of the NBA's All-Star Weekend festivities on Feb. 19, the day before the All-Star game at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

More than 200 Hollywood luminaries including John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe and Brad Pitt have had their hands and feet set in cement in front of the Hollywood landmark.

Is there anything else that the unofficial mayor of Los Angeles hasn't done? Kobe is a true leader & champion-of-champions, so he can do whatever he puts his mind to. I cannot wait to see what he does when he walks away from basketball in a couple of years.
Kobe was recently asked what defines greatness & his response was "Championship rings." Well his count is at 5 & counting. I am sure he will have more hardware in his trphy case next to his heavy jewelry box of championship rings before he's finished.
Google lion amongst wolves & see if Kobe's pic pops up.

Kobv's MOST IMPORTANT step needs to be persuading management to make a trade to bring in scoring off the bench...Blake and Barnes???...NOT MUCH...Right now, i am seeing Celtics in 6, that is, ..if lethargic Lakers gets by San Antonio and/or a much more physical Dallas

Why is a sports star getting this honor? It cheapens the whole thing about the hand prints. And like many of said, Kobe?! Out of all the athletes who have done anything? Ridiculous

Don't fret. Have you been to 'Hollywood' recently? It's basically a ghetto, full of tourists and shops selling tourist junk. Its no big deal. Most movies are made outside of California these days anyway. The whole 'handprint' thing is so 1970's.

There are more better players to me that deserve this honor more then Kobe. If you are going to do this do it to somebody that deserves it.

It's a feckin star...get over it people. KB deserves more than that for the business he has generated in LA.

Yeah, the money and fame aren't nearly enUFf, right??....
Dude, he plays a sport. There are limits to the noble admiration one gives (or should get) for playing a game! Yes, that "game" makes money for a small and select few, BUT!.- outside that, most any sports "star" is over-compensated....as too, are actors/actresses, singers and Rickshaws!

I'm a huge Laker fan and a huge Kobe fan, but I don't think this is appropriate. The Chinese is a movie star thing and should stay that way. I doubt there will be a statue of Dustin Hoffman outside Staples Center anytime soon.

Well, I don't think your analogy is appropriate. But how about if they designated an area specifically for "other" type of entertainers such as athletes. Would that be more appropriate?
02:23 PM on 01/21/2011
Guys, it's a continuing tribute to movie stars created outside a movie theater. Plain and simple. Maybe do the hand/footprint thing outside Staples. Actually, that could be fun, especially given how large those prints would be! Kids would love matching their hands to Kareem's.
