Michele Bachmann: Obama Health Care Reform 'The Crown Jewel Of Socialism'

First Posted: 01/21/11 02:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:25 PM ET

On the floor of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) called President Obama's health care reform law "the crown jewel of socialism."

Bachmann, the founder of the Tea Party Caucus in the House, made her remarks during a debate that led to the passage of the bill aiming to repeal Democrats' health care legislation passed last year. The vote was 245 to 189, with 3 Democrats joining all 242 Republicans.

Although Democratic leaders in the Senate have said they will not act on the bill, stunting its progress, Bachmann insists that the vote is not just symbolic: "We aren't going to just check the box off and say we had one vote and we're going to move on to other topics." She said Republicans would work to prevent funding on the bill so it can not be implemented.

This is not the first time the controversial congresswoman has attracted attention for her choice words on health care reform. At a heatlh care forum last February she suggested the Democrats' bill would lead to a "gangster government" that would prevent those who criticized reform from receiving care.

Conservatives: always on the wrong side of history

It is an interesting twist in regrds to how our political system is organized that elected officials such as Bachmann and Boehner, are given a national stage even though they were elected with relatively few votes. For Boehner, it was around 100,000 or so I believe.
Don't know if this means anything or not. Just sayin'...

Actually, Bachmann is the person who on national TV made all the representations about our country in her response to Obama and the designated responder of the State of the Union. Of course we all know how she totally mucked that call. My third grade great grand child called her out as a "lady who did not even know the facts about the constitution". It is amazing that this ditzy woman is still talking in public. She does NOT represent my part of the Republican Party at all! Seldom have I heard a more mangled theory of the history of our country.

What's makes this so sad is that she probaly thinks that she is so smart and what she says is true.

She's such a hyprocrite, I don't see her giving up her socialist health care.

Anti-socialist Michele Bachmann got $250K in federal farm subsidies for herself between 1995 and 2006. Source: http://politi.co/68rIQS

Why is she so anti-socialist lately? Was she purged from the party after she got her big bucks?

Maybe she just doesn't like being called "Comrade Senator".
03:21 PM on 01/23/2011
Let me spell it out for ya - subsidies for entrepreneurship = good. subsidies for entitlements = bad.
06:27 AM on 01/24/2011
That sounds about right.

Then she must be wearing a few of the crown jewels 'cause the government picks up the tab for her health care costs: http://usat.ly/grXPr

The U.S. used to have the best care in the world. Now that we have embarked on Leninist, Marxist policies in the future we will lose that status. If anyone anywhere in the world wanted the best care available they always came here. But all of that will change over thext several years unless it is repealed. Michelle is always right when she speaks. We are lucky to have her in congress...

The U.S. used to have the best care in the world, but that was decades ago. Now we just have the most expensive.

It's fixing to get way more expensive unless the law is repealed. Our neighbors to the north are trying to get more like us now.

Clearly, what this woman lacks in intellect, she makes up for in hubris.

Minnesota, are you ashamed yet?
09:58 PM on 01/21/2011
I think in general, Minnesota's been ashamed since she was elected the first time. The only ones who dont seem to be are those who elected her.

Personally, I'm ashamed she's from MN every time she opens her mouth.

The following was copied from WikipediA: Socialism is an economic and political theory advocating public or common ownership and cooperative management of the means of production and allocation of resources.[1][2][3] A socialist society is a social structure organized on the basis of relatively equal power-relations, self-management, dispersed decision-making (adhocracy) and a reduction or elimination of hierarchical and bureaucratic forms of administration and governance; the extent of which varies in different types of socialism.[4][5] This ranges from the establishment of cooperative management structures in the economy to the abolition of all hierarchical structures in favor of free association. Who started calling this Obama Care?
09:59 PM on 01/21/2011
Republicans. I think that they figure that with so many people being against anything just because Obama was for it, it would win them points to call it that.
