Reporting from Washington --

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas failed to report his wife's income from a conservative think tank on financial disclosure forms for at least five years, the watchdog group Common Cause said Friday.

Between 2003 and 2007, Virginia Thomas, a longtime conservative activist, earned $686,589 from the Heritage Foundation, according to a Common Cause review of the foundation's IRS records. Thomas failed to note the income in his Supreme Court financial disclosure forms for those years, instead checking a box labeled "none" where "spousal noninvestment income" would be disclosed.

Obama is not a liar. Watch your mouth. Clarence Thomas--who knows about him? He never speaks. Guess I wouldn't call him a liar either.

Forgetful, maybe. Like forgetting to claim income on his taxes.

Why has there not been a investigation? The common person would have received an automatic audit by the IRS and a criminal investigation!

Alas - this was not an income tax return. It was a financial disclosure form. But I don't know if it is signed under penalty of perjury or not. If so, then Thomas is guilty of perjury, but not income tax evasion.

Funny, a local politician here just received a 48 month sentence for failing to report the paltry sum (compared to Virginia Thomas) of about $30m on his income tax. Now there's justice (no pun intended) for ya.

HERE COME DE JUDGE, CLARENCE THOMAS

“‘TIS, BETTER TO BE SILENT AND BE THOUGHT A FOOL, THAN TO SPEAK REMOVE ALL DOUBT”

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has just proven Abraham Lincoln’s observation to be on point. Thomas often called the “silent” member of the Court for not having asked a question during oral arguments for at least seven years, has just spoken and removed any doubt as to his stupidity. This judge is not only a fool but may well have violated civil and criminal statutes. And by the way, he is one of the guys that are the final arbiters of the law in our country.

Come on -- this incident is proof that Justice Thomas is either incompetent, corrupt or both. Whichever the case, these are not qualities conducive to sound jurisprudence. Couple this with other obviously political acts perpetrated by the Gang of Four (Roberts, Alito, Scalia and Thomas) and there remains little doubt that the highest court in the land is a total disgrace. The Citizen's United decision is a glaring example of political activism that was supported by all manner of convoluted reasoning. It is an abomination on the Court's record and should serve as grounds for the populace to unite against its corporatist agenda.

Hear! Hear! Very well-stated.

Regardless of intentions, if he cannot follow relatively simple instructions on a federal disclosure form, how can he be trusted to accurately analyze and interpret complex federal statutes? What ever happened to paying attention to detail...

Just out of curiosity, does anyone think a Supreme Court justice fills out his own taxes? My guess is he has an accountant. Yes, he is still accountable for the inaccuracy, but I doubt he was the one checking the box.

Surely the accountant asked him for his wife's income at least several times over the seven years he lied.

We didn't impeach anyone for outing a CIA agent. We didn't impeach anyone for lying us into war. We didn't impeach anyone for using torture or flying innocent people to other counties to get tortured. We didn't impeach any supremes for lying about thier judicial activiism. Why would we start now. We only impeach Democrats, for one thing, and then it is only about sex. It's perfectly fine for Thomas'' wife to work for an extreme right wing organization and for him to not report her income. I had to meet with the IRS once about my taxes too. They couldnt' believe anyone could survive on what I made as a musician. I ended up paying another 166 dollars for my oversight. But I'm not as special as a lying filthy excuse for a human being Justice. He won't be investigated and he won't have to pay a penalty. That's only for poor people.

This almost rises to requiring impeachment. The United State Supreme matters but I have no respect for the Roberts Court.

If only we had believed Anita Hill when he was being confirmed. I was also harrassed by a superior when this was going on. I'm sure my republican dad would have been horrified if he had know what I endured. But men tend to defend their darker sides, don't they. But back to his "ommision," I'm sure he just forgot......for seven years. And his drunk wife's comments on Ms. Hill's answering machine seem to further prove that he has something to hide. He needs to step down, because he is not honest, or forthright, or even very smart. Did he really think he could hide his wife's involvement in an ultra right wing establishment (to the tune of 700 thousand) and no one would notice? I guess he thinks everyone watches Fox. Hello! We're not all stupid!
