We guess it was only a matter of time until sites like eBay became a bigger part of what can now be considered this state of street art madness. There have long been any number of prints from street art mainstays for sale on eBay, but just last week, they had to pull down an auction that said it would reveal the true identity of British street artist Banksy. This week we discover, via Gothamist, that for $100 you can own a small scrap of a mural that Shepard Fairey painted in New York. On a public wall. (One of the many, in fact.)
The mural scrap in question comes from the Deitch wall, but its not hard to spot other Fairey works around the streets of both New York and LA. Other street artists who've tagged the Deitch wall include Twist, Amaze, and Barry McGee and we can only wish that this trend of buying mural scraps had included them. We'll be keeping an eye on this auction, but the question is.. Will you bid?
