Michele Bachmann State Of The Union Response: Speech Attacks ObamaCare, Stimulus & More

Michele Bachmann

First Posted: 01/25/11 10:02 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:25 PM ET

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) delivered her own rebuttal to President Barack Obama's State of the Union address on Tuesday night despite Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) being tapped to give the official Republican response (video below).

CNN was the only cable network to carry the Tea Party favorite's speech.

Bachmann suggested she's "not in competition with Paul Ryan," according to CNN.

The Atlantic relays advanced excerpts of Bachmann's remarks.

After the $700 billion bailout, the trillion-dollar stimulus, and the massive budget bill with over 9,000 earmarks that the President signed, many of you implored Washington to please stop spending money we don't have.

But, instead of cutting, we saw an unprecedented explosion of government spending and debt at President Obama's direction; unlike anything we have seen in the history of our country.

For two years President Obama made promises... He claimed that he would find solutions to fix our economy and help create jobs.

Well, here are a few suggestions:

The President could stop the EPA from imposing a job-destroying cap-and-trade system.

The President could agree with House Republicans and commit himself to signing a Balanced Budget Amendment.

The President could also agree to an all-of-the-above energy policy whereby we increase American energy production, reduce our dependence on foreign oil, reduce the price of gas at the pump, and create good-paying jobs in the U.S.

The President could turn back some of the 132 regulations put in place in the last two years that each have an impact of $100-million or more on our economy.

Thanks to all of you, there's reason to hope that real spending cuts are coming. Last November many of you went to the polls and voted out big-spending politicians and you put in their place men and women who have come to Washington with a commitment to follow the Constitution and cut the size of government. And I believe that we are in the early days of a history-making turn here in the House of Representatives.

Last week we voted to repeal ObamaCare, and each day going forward, we must work hard to dismantle the massive government expansion that has happened over the past two years.

The other comment was correct, the massive job losses can and should be attributed to the previous administration, not Obama. The initial 700 billion dollar bail out was also created under the Bush administration by Paulson in the fall of 2008. The great turn around from surplus to extreme deficit also seems to stem from the policies of 8 years of the Bush administration (including two unnecessary wars, a medicare drug plan not paid for, and an imprudent tax cut benefiting the upper classes). I'm not here to comment on the past or to just Bush bash. The problem I have with the Obama "stimulus" of 2009, although no doubt necessary to offset a depression, is that it did not come with enough strings attached (and neither did the bank bail out of Paulson). We should have reorganized a regulated the whole financial system of the nation as well as divided the mega organizations (such as AIG) into smaller separate units (never allow "too big to fail" raise its ugly head in America again). Although the Obama Health Care Bill has finally given us a patient bill of rights, it 1. does not cover everyone, 2. does little to really address the cost of care. I think we all know that only a single payer system could adequately do this.

Did anyone other than Beck or Limbaugh even watch Ms Bachmann's rebuttal? Was it watched by anyone with an IQ above room temperature?

My mind shuts down when: 1) people start yelling at me; or 2) when they use that "Romper Room' voice.

"Romper, bomper, stomper boo. Tell me, tell me, tell me, do. Magic Mirror, tell me today, have all my Forbes 500 friends had fun at play?"

"Mr. Don't Bee" needs to visit Miss Bachmann. Soon.

Rep. Bachman apparently doesn't know the Constitution very well. It doesn't call for cutting the size of government. If anything, it calls for expanding government. Art I Sec 8 Cl 8 says that Congress shall promote the progress of science and useful arts.

Such progress can come from either government or the private sector or any combination of the two.

If Rep. Bachman is so concerned about cutting dependence on foreign energy sources, why doesn't she use this Article to remove all references to hemp in the Controlled Substances Act?

Over 50,000 products can be made from hemp including charcoal to replace coal, ethanol, methanol, gas and gasoline to replace other fossil fuels.

Likely, Rep. Bachman doesn't really mean what she says. She's just saying what her followers want to hear.

I LOVE HEMP! It is one of my primary sources of protein and skin care.

Ms. Bachman would no longer receive farm subsidies if she supported the cultivation and production of hemp.

Of course they do... trouble is, they MAKE UP the facts they use, then pass them around so everyone can use the exact same words and phrases... "WMD", "Death Panels", "Socialist", "Nazi", "Adult conversation", "No jobs created"... there is a new one every week.

A famous man once wrote "Repetition is the key to convincing the feeble-minded. If many people in authority use the same words and phrases, sooner or later many citizenry will believe them to be fact."

I found that to be one of the most interesting segments of "Mein Kampf".

Rep Bachmann, how can the US be the "indispensable nation in the world" when your form of smaller Gov't won't pay for the long distance calls needed to keep in touch with the rest of the world? The simple solutions to complex problems folks give me an itch.
Oh, and by the by, the Battle of Iwo Jima was fought by Marines, not GIs. GIs are in the Army.

here is a good fact for you
"Failed Stimulus?" When President Obama Took Office The Economy Was Shedding Hundreds Of Thousands Of Jobs Per Month...
The Economy Shed Almost 8 Million Jobs Under Republican Policies Before The Recovery Act Could Affect The Economy. According to economist Robert J. Shapiro:
From December 2007 to July 2009 - the last year of the Bush second term and the first six months of the Obama presidency, before his policies could affect the economy - private sector employment crashed from 115,574,000 jobs to 107,778,000 jobs. Employment continued to fall, however, for the next six months, reaching a low of 107,107,000 jobs in December of 2009. So, out of 8,467,000 private sector jobs lost in this dismal cycle, 7,796,000 of those jobs or 92 percent were lost on the Republicans' watch or under the sway of their policies. Some 671,000 additional jobs were lost as the stimulus and other moves by the administration kicked in, but 630,000 jobs then came back in the following six months. The tally, to date: Mr. Obama can be held accountable for the net loss of 41,000 jobs (671,000 - 630,000), while the Republicans should be held responsible for the net losses of 7,796,000 jobs. And it took only 2001- 2003 to get Republican  policies, change laws, to put their  plans into action and open the flood gates for their wealthy palls and started 2 Wars, borrowed a Trillion dollars overseas, did not keep America save, 911 on their watch, created 2 Wars, and handed the $$$$ bills to the middle class Tax payers, which leaves help reduces taxes going on their social security and medicare. Now repubs what to take, the little all have left and privatize social security and medcare, for $$ profits for their palls.  Republicans wealthy tax cuts for 10 years, which was Republicans Stimulus Plan, to create jobs,  that cost  a $$Trillion in Loss Tax Revenues in 10 years and lost 7,796,000 million jobs. Great plan? No jobs, no tax dollars going on social security and medicare right? Bingo Mission Accomplished. More Profits profits

You are exactly right... back during the 2004 election campaign, I researched the number of businesses closing, layoffs and the number of "Employed" figures from the Department of Labor and tried to show everyone that the government's "Unemployed" statistics were absolute lies. No one wanted to believe it.

By 2006, literally THOUSANDS of businesses had closed and millions were layed off.

The numbers are still there if anyone wants to check them... just check the monthly "EMPLOYED" numbers, non-seasonably adjusted, and for age-16 plus from 1990 through 2010. It's really easy to see that 2006's reported "4.6% unemployed" was dreamed up by someone in Republican Party headquarters!

During Clinton's years, nearly 19 million new jobs were created, but we LOST ground during the Bush years allowing for the normal annual growth of the work force and the flood of illegal aliens!
