"Urban Light" At LACMA Makes Cameos In Movies, Commercials & Photoshoots

First Posted: 01/25/11 02:59 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:25 PM ET

Without a recognizable urban skyline (yet), most people associate visual cues like palm trees and the Hollywood sign with Los Angeles. The LA Times reports, however, that the "Urban Light" art installation at the LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum Of Art) courtyard is fast becoming an iconic Los Angeles landmark. In the past few years since artist Chris Burden installed the lampposts, they've popped up in movies, commercials, fashion shoots, and music videos--not to mention personal Flickr accounts.

We've rounded up some of "Urban Light's" pop culture appearances as well as some of the best user-generated photos. If you've ever taken a walk through the forest of LACMA's lampposts, add your pictures to the slideshow below.

Will this LACMA display still be legal when they outlaw incandescent bulbs?

I think if it's like what they are doing to LA streetlights anyway, they probably aren't or won't be
incandescent anyway. I think they are even converting them to LED in some locations.

So is there still a display of the LA street lights at that shopping center at Santa Monica and Vermont and a little farther east some displayed at the Bureau Of Street Lighting Facility at Virgil?

Love this installation. Took pictures of my son and my nephew hanging out and talking among the light posts.
