Bill Maher's New Rule: After Gays In The Military, Let's Get Straight People On 'Glee' (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post
First Posted: 01/26/11 10:30 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:25 PM ET

Bill Maher is happy that Don't Ask Don't Tell was repealed, but he also feels there could be more equality in another arena: the cast of "Glee."

"Now that the army is letting in gays and lesbians, "Glee" has to add at least one character who's straight. Just for variety! I mean my memories of high school are fuzzy but I'm pretty sure not every single human being in the building was gay."

Hear the rest of the rule in the clip below and catch "Real Time With Bill Maher" Fridays at 10:00 p.m. on HBO.

Frak Bill Maher. The more people tell me i shouldn't hate gays the more I hate them

Reading through your comments, nongrata, you seem like quite the enlightened fellow.

May I ask why you hate gay people? Did a dude come onto you in a hot, steamy shower, or were you trying to get one to notice you and all they did was laugh and point at you "down there?" Really am curious why people such as yourself feel you have the right to hate anyone? Do gays offend your religion or something? Because we have freedom of religion, you know, and there are many different religious sects that support gay rights. And if you are religious, what about the love and kindness and treating others with respect? Or did your religious leader skip that part? Are you hiding repressed feelings that you care not to admit to? Because for someone who claims not to really care about the gay issue, you seem to comment on it quite a lot in a very moronic way, a typical sign of "gay repression," see: Haggard, Ted.

Glad to know someone will be there to pick up the "hate" torch after Pat Robertson and our other great bastions of social conservatives step out of the spotlight.

I don't see any reason why i should like or care about gays, before they were hardly on TV and news and they were out of sight out of mind. but now they are everywhere. I cant watch a channel or goto a seepage or read a newspaper without the gay agenda being there. In real life i can't express my true opinions because gays and their sympathisers attack people. The net is the way I can speak my mind. Also They have people saying they like gays just because they are gay. I'm the opposite. people ask me why, i say why not.

I enjoy my community but I sure need a break from them. I welcome my straight friends often and mix with a variety of personalities but I find the most fun is being alone, outdoors talking to pretty flowers and happy animals.

Unless your talking about the GOP and then the numbers are more like 80% gay and 20% cheating on their wives with a mistress.

50% of that 20% were cheating with same sex mistress

Cute joke, yes, but it seems Bill doesn't watch Glee. Most of the characters are straight.

Hint: Jane Lynch is gay, but her character is straight.

I wonder what Bill Maher smells like...
Bet he sniffs out pretty good.
Think he smells like Brut cologne?
Oatmeal soap?
Lilac bath salts?
Hummus?
Hot apple pie?
Poppy seed hamantaschen?
Goobers at the movies?
Dust from asteroids?
New cars?
The smell of wiggle room?
The smell made by the word "dude"?
Hmmm...
I wonder.

10% was the Kinsey Report number, 3% under the Bush Administration, and recently 12% in a UN report. A gay community estimate is 100% with most in denial.

That's the oft-quoted Kinsey report, 10%, which is pretty dated.  :)

When you add in the rest of the letters in LGBTIQ (they seem to be being added weekly!), there are a lot more than strictly WASPY straight, nuclear family Donna Reed families all over.

But I am only talking maybe a 12-15% statistic. Hmm, that begins to beat the number of Italian-Americans in the USA (15.6% as of the 2000 census). However, watch out for the stats, because I don't believe the census included a line for LGBTIQ people. 2020, maybe.

FF'd! :)

The percentages depend on where one lives. Here in Dallas, based on a survey of a popular list one finds all over the world, and factoring in the total population numbers for this area, the numbers are going to be more like these:

12% over the age of 21 definitely gay
28% over the age of 21 claim to be bi, if you want to believe that
23% over the age of 21 claim to be straight but the gf or wife is out of town, and well you know how it is, a man has needs and it just isn't right to cheat on his gf or wife with another woman
6% over the age of 21 just experimenting but kinda/sorta did it at least one time years ago and enjoyed it
1% over the age of 21 claim not to be gay but lost their job so need some money to do it
30% over the age of 21 are Baptist, who don't admit to doing anything

Here's a new rule for you, Bill:  Given that your format allows your roundtable guests to talk over each other, how about giving a thought to how freaking piercing their voices can be.  I tuned in on Janury 14 and you triggered a full blown migraine by seating both James Carville and Chrystia Freeland.  The next night, my husband and son, who had missed the Friday airing, tuned in to catch the show and from a safe distance in the other room I heard exclamations of surprise, pain and confusion as they rushed to find the remote to make it stop.
