Willow Smith, Jay-Z To Remake 'Annie'

LOS ANGELES — Another child of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith is set to star in the remake of a Hollywood classic.

Ten-year-old Willow Smith is set to play the title role in "Annie."

The film is being developed by Overbrook Entertainment, which the Smiths co-own, along with Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter and Sony Pictures.

Last year, 12-year-old Jaden Smith starred in a remake of "The Karate Kid," which raked in $343 million worldwide.

Sony's Columbia Pictures first brought "Annie" to theaters in 1982.

The movie was based on the Broadway musical in which an orphan's life is transformed when she goes to live with the wealthy industrialist Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks.

It's amazing the amount of hate being spewed towards a family who have been nothing but positive. There has never been stories of either Will or Jada doing drugs, being unfaithful, not paying their taxes, or anything else negative. This little girl and her brother, when interviewed, have been nothing but humble, respectful and gracious. They have not been bratty, rude nor have they acted ungrateful or "entitled". They deserve every opportunity their parents can afford to give them, just like any other child. The comments posted here sound like jealousy and envy, pure and simple. (quite a few of them sound like racism too) And that's a shame.

I say "Good luck Willow and kudos Will and Jada for allowing your children to pursue their dreams. The rest of us hope to be so lucky!"

NO I had not heard that .. well Kudos to her, I'm glad someone is calling them out.. I've always said the same thing it looked like the pimpin game . I don't understand why BLACK entertainers don't set the example of getting their kids WELL EDUCATED... If more famous black celebrities talked about the IMPORTANCE of education it would help the AA community with its high DROPOUT rate...You have so many kids running around here thinking they will grow up be famous like Lil Wayne or Beyonce so why go to school ....I just find a lot of black celebrities put out the wrong message..

Elizabeth Taylor, Alphalpha, Michael Jackson, River Phoenix, Gary Coleman, Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, and on and on.

Also, the children in tv shows 8 is enough, the partridge family, leave it to beaver, little house on the prairie, buckwheat, the brady bunch, facts of life, fish, good times, and the list goes on and on forever. All the child bands. I think you get the drift. This is a none issue, only the players are different. gotcha!

I like the Smiths, beautiful talented family- but I hate when people take my favourite musicals and try to remake them. Willy Wonka with Jonny Depp- BS; The King and I- Anna and the King..travesty; Annie -Annie of the 1990s...disappointing; The Wizard of Oz-The Wiz (I understand that they wanted a black version but beyond Michael Jackson being adorable-rubbish)

Let the Classics remain Classic, please. Are we so creatively lacking that the only way forward is to redo the past?

Will Smith is one of the most over-rated and over-exposed actors in Hollywood. Now he's pushing his kids to be the same.

There is nothing more annoying than having someone with limited skills/talent pushed on the public stage.

Smith is a talented actor who has achieved INTERNATIONAL sucess. 14/19 of his films have grossed over 100 million dollars. He is by no means a mediocre talent.

Where is your star on the Hollywood Blvd?

another child being cajoled to a movie platform by rich Hollywood parents. I know you need child actors, but these projects are specifically done for the kid exclusively by daddy and mommy. I don't know- maybe okay, I i just think it should be limited in some form... education a priority
