CTA Considers Closing 5 L Stops

Chicago commuters may need to start thinking about alternative routes if the CTA moves forward with their plan to close five L stops.

The stations they are plan to close are Thorndale, Lawrence and Jarvis stops on the Red Line, and Foster and South Boulevard stops along the Purple Line in Evanston, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

"It would be closing some entrances and opening them up somewhere else -- in some cases just a block away,'' CTA spokeswoman Lambrini Lukidis told the Sun-Times. "It's not exactly eliminating."

Aside from closures, CTA also wants to renovate the 9.5-mile stretch from Belmont to the Linden stop in Evanston by putting 15 to 21 handicap accessible stations. The estimated cost of this project is $4.2 billion.

There will be a public meeting tonight, Jan. 27, at 6 p.m. to answer any questions about the plan. The meeting will be at the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center located at 1655 Foster St. in Evanston.
