Animal Photos Of The Week

It's the week of baby primates - baby orangutans, baby gorillas, and... more baby orangutans! Plus, we have pics of the adult gorilla who walks upright like a human, a two-headed calf, and giant snails used to monitor air pollution. Not to be outdone, the elephants, hippos, and rhinos all make commendable showings with adorable babies of their own.

it is just impossible to pick a favorite among such beings.  each and every one of them is a model of perfection we can only aspire to.

i hope the calf is able to live a normal life, or is at least comfortable and happy for whatever time he/she has.

and one last thing.  i really wish people would stop referring to animals as "it."  they are most emphatically NOT "its."  they are male and female as we are, not inanimate objects.  we already treat them badly enough, we should stop making puny attempts to rob them of their rightful dignity as a "he" or a "she."

very cute. I wish the article pointed out that orangutans are very endangered, expected to become extinct VERY soon. The Paradise Rainforest in Indonesia where they live is being burned down for palm oil plantations (and palm oil is in pretty much everything). Already a lot of companies have adopted anti-deforestation policies, which is helping, but there are many companies that still support the palm oil company behind all this. Please spread the word and tell Pizza Hut and Dunkin Donuts to get the heck out of orangutan habitat before it's too late.

I love animals and nature; Im always happy when other people refer to me as monkey,ape, etc for my being black. These guys are beautiful and have beautiful hearts. :)
